Trendy is the Last Stage Before Tacky

I’ve fallen into the trap of trends worse than ever this spring. Tassels! Poms! Metallic mirrored sunnies! I’m a walking cliche, right down to the bare shoulders [which hey surprise attract sunburns more than ever as I’ve learned the hard way].

I’m gonna give myself a one-time pass on boarding the trend-train this spring, only because it wasn’t that I was tryyyying to follow a crowd. I was merely emotionally invested in The Bachelor, and I saw Lauren Bushnell wearing off-the-shoulder tops and flip flops, so I bought off-the-shoulder tops and flip flops.

Don’t know who everyone else stole the idea from.

Always a Bridesmaid

GUYS. We celebrated our one-year wedding anniversary last week! Time flies and then some.

Now my days as a bride are long gone [#byewhitecocktaildresses], and it’s bridesmaid duties from here on out. I love the seersucker sweethearts my girls wore, but if I could do it again? I’d let them choose their own dress.

I recently worked with LaurenConrad.com on this be-yoo-tiful guide to dresses for every bridesmaid, no matter what their body type, and it’s making me wish I could do it all over again. I’m wearing the Paper Crown Breanna Dress, repping us petite 5’4″-and-under ladies, because what’s worse than dropping all that money on a long dress, only to have to add on a complicated alteration that may totally change the original look? The Breanna’s empire waist makes it ideal for a quick hem job. #everycolorplease

Vitamin Sea

After a week of freezing, cliche April showers, we caught a break in the eye of the storm and spent a weekend down in lil’ Rhode Island. Thanks to a 1:30 ferry time, we had a morning to ourselves to explore the southeastern tip of the state, featuring–duh–Point Judith Lighthouse and Del’s. What more do you really need in a daytrip?

I’ll tell ya a little more about this jaunt away next week, but because you asked(?), my ferry outfit::

I feel like every year I continue to find a spring transition jacket I love more than the last, and this FatFace UK raincoat takes the trophy for 2016. The sun may have come out of hiding for a couple days, but we’re still costing with a toasty high of 52°, and this fun navy toggle coat gets the job done.

You could tell me it was February, you could tell me it was June, and I’d believe you. I don’t remember April even happening, and yet here we are four days from the end of the month. I’d be lying if I said my head was anywhere other than work, husband, fam, and remembering to shave my legs now that sundress weather has almost reappeared, but here are just a few things distracting me this April::

Celebrate // In true fangirl fashion, I ordered LC’s newest book–over under–six months ago, and it has delivered and then some. Now I’ve become obsessed with refreshing my glassware collection and tackling my fear of dinner parties.

“Preppy” Poms & Tassels // I do love this spring trend, but more than anything, I’m so incredibly amused at how the self-proclaimed prepsters of the world have jumped on such a bohemian look. Fringe-trimmed off-the-shoulder top paired with pearls and pineapple-printed shorts? I love it, but joke’s on you sorority sistah.

New England Daytrips // I’ve felt so lost without these, the blog has felt empty without these. We took a quick drive up to the North Shore on Sunday and it felt sodamngood to be back. We’re headed to Block Island this weekend, but for more local travel inspiration, I want you all to pay my friend Seacoast Lately a visit. She covers what to see, do, and eat in the Seacoast region and beyond, and she even let me pop by to chat about my favorite Boston springtime traditions.

This is Why Women are Obsessed with Lilly Pulitzer // This article is so real it hurts. A long but worthy read that #nailedit and so perfectly illustrates the cult of Lilly. I want to print out and frame half of Emily’s quotes.

MiniLuxe Chestnut Hill // Hot dang, MiniLuxe’s new Chestnut Hill location is noiiiiice. On top of it’s huge, pristine interior, MiniLuxe has a great mission statement that I really hadn’t paid too much attention to before–clean is their culture; they’re all about clean business, clean ethics, and clean methodology–all of which I saw and experienced upon visiting their newest salon at The Street. It’s hard to picture going for that #manipedi anywhere else after chatting with/getting pampered by them.

And hey! If you’re in Boston tomorrow (4/28), come out to in the pink on Newbury between 6 and 8 for a little pre-Kentucky Derby shopping party. Because no one does Derby season like Lilly does, and shopping without some bubbly is just another errand. I’d lurve to help you pick out some prints for your May 7th festivities. And sorry did I mention treats?

Wardrobe Staple: The Shirtdress

Spring trends this year guys. They are hothotHOT–are you not seeing off-the-shoulder pieces and grown-up gingham everywhere you look? Sometimes in the same place? I’ve given into some this year, I really have, but the more I shop for ready-to-wear trends, ie. impulse buys, the more I try to force myself to step back and think about which pieces are going to stick around the longest…which are worth investing in.

Now is it shirt dress or shirtdress?

Fair enough, this Kate Spade shirtdress capitalizes on the I’m-calling-it-now flounce/drop-waist skirt trend that’s about to be, but when you’re filling your closet with staples, don’t be afraid to add some flair every once and a while. Ya dig?

Spring Brights

I blinked and it was April 14.

We’re four and a half months into 2016. I’m two months into my “new” job. We’re 3/7ths of the way through weddings season. Man oh man guys. The days are long but the years fly by.

April 14 also means that two weeks have gone by since my 5-year blogiversary. Kids out there are throwing parties for reaching 500 followers on Instagram and I let the anniversary of my longest relationship slip by without even noticing.

I’ve heard from more than a few people that you should never feel the need to apologize to your readers for taking a hiatus. I’m not necessarily sorry for cutting back, but I do regret the lack of quality content I’ve shared this year. Especially thinking about how some of you have been stopping by to see my mediocre attempts at pairing tulle skirts with boat shoes and making “rustic nautical” a thing for five years.

To be fair, we’ll call it four and a half, unless your name is Patricia Shell.

I do miss being faithful. I miss you and I miss the excitement I used to feel when I hit “publish.” I promised myself I wouldn’t let this blog fall to the wayside when things got busier, but it has. So really I just want to say hey thanks. Thanks for continuing to check in. I’m comin’ back for ya slowly yet surely, but I promise to share nothing but content I’m especially piqued by from here on out.

Trench Coat Season

Another day, another pastel coat. One that I purchased after overhearing a fellow customer Regina George-that-is-the-ugliest-effing-coat-I-have-ever-seen it, which only made me want it a little more. It served me well on our trip to NorCal, with the 80%-chance-of-rain forecast that Mama Nature promised and followed through on, and I don’t doubt that it’ll continue to get a workout back here on the dreary East coast.

Now I don’t claim to be someone who can pull off the casual chicness that is a Converse + dress duo, but these 30K-step days left me no choice but to attempt it. I won’t even try to hide the bandaged heels you may or may not see here.

I call this one, “Mary Kate Olsen.”

Spring Shopping List

THIS chick gave up online shopping for 38, going on 40, days.

Fair enough, I did not give up shopping in its entirety. Just implemented a little online shopping ban, as it has always been a vice of mine, and its where I tend to make the most impulse, totally-did-not-need-another-striped-dress purchases. I blame it on bloggers and e-mail campaigns.

I’m going to see how long I can keep this up, but since I’ll technically be allowedddd come Sunday, here are some goodies I’ve been resisting for the last month and some.
