This weekend I was gifted with the most important piece of jewelry that will ever come across this silly little blog. I am beyond excited to marry the best person I know– cheers to him + his love, patience, and willingness to put up with a lifetime of me!
Wakin’ Up with Grapefruit
Lately I’ve been trying to incorporate half a grapefruit into my morning breakfast routine. Great for your heart, your skin, your metabolism… and its bright, citrusy flavor is the perfect pick-me-up for early mornings. I’ve been particularly drawn to its colors as well, because how could you not start your week off on a positive note while sporting these pretty brights?!

Michael’s Debuts New Look
In working on getting inventory ready for the project Samantha and I have been putting hours [months?] into, we’ve been buying a lotttta craft supplies. So I was over the moon when Michaels invited me to check out the new look of their Saugus store!
Twenty-seven stores in the Boston area, actually, recently received makeovers, and I was so impressed with the new design. I think about the Michaels locations I grew up visiting [feeding my teenage obsession for scrapbooking…. #nerd], and they were crowded… cluttered…. confusing…. these recently redesigned stores [all in the greater Boston area to start!] are so much brighter, more colorful, and the layout just makes a ton more sense. The openness is the first thing you notice– it’s incredibly inviting.
The Michaels team invited some Boston bloggers to check out the unveil before the official grand re-opening celebrations this weekend [details below!]. We dove right into the Michaels experience and created works of art attempted this paper-on-canvas project [the above piece belongs to Amy. Mine will not be pictured for lack-of-artistic-talent reasons].
[ Red is EVERYWHERE now! Makes it so much easier to locate the sales associates!]
The stores now feature an expanded home decor section– hello coastal finds!
This Sunday marks the grand re-opening of the 27 Boston-area stores, with a ribbon cutting at each at 9:45am. The first guests in the store have the chance to win up to $1000 in gift cards, so get there early! Jo Pearson will even be at the Saugus location– CraftWars fans here?!

Macaron Inspired
In typical cliche blogger fashion, I have a severe addiction to French macarons. I’ve spent the 7 years I’ve lived in Boston trying to hunt down one as good as Ladurée‘s, and only now have I found it in the new Cameo Macaron food truck!
Founder Kinesha Goldson, a Northeastern grad who studied abroad in Paris, is quite possibly the cutest human ever + my new personal hero for finally making authentic macarons easily accessible and affordable outside of France and NYC. I love Trader Joe’s frozen version as much as the next person, but I mean….
I unintentionally rocked some appropriately bright colors visiting the truck the other week. I think these would be Black Currant // Wild Raspberry // Passion Fruit??
The truck rotates between Northeastern, Back Bay, Financial District, and the Pru– click here for the full schedule.
And the rest of the candy-coated look…!
Blazer, H&M [similar] | Worth Straight Jeans, Lilly Pulitzer [similar color] | Pearl Necklace c/o Francesca’s [sold out online – similar] | Anchor Bangle, Lilly Pulitzer [similar] | Iris Clutch, GiGi New York | Shell Wedges, Lilly Pulitzer [similar]
Have you visited Cameo Macaron yet?

Weekend Wear
I’m off on a quick jaunt to NYC to do a little bridesmaid dress shopping // wedding planning with my best friend who is getting married next year!
I’ve got my fingers crossed for a relaxing train ride down and the sun to come out when I get there– I’ll even settle for jean jacket weather…
[ Briella Dress, Lilly Pulitzer – also love this striped one! ]

A little local love today, but these brands will ship anywhere so all of you ladies + gents better listen up!
From now until April 28, 301 Newbury Street is home to the Prep for Summer pop-up shop, featuring a number of local preppy designers showcasing some of their newest products and designs. Shirts, hats, shoes– you name it, they got it [probably in needlepoint & probably monogrammable].
Let me give you a walk through the cute space they have set up [Adirondak chairs and all!]:
Beacon & Brewster:: Tees + Polos for a Cause
Each shirt’s color represents a cause [think Alzheimer’s Awareness, Breast Cancer, etc.], and a portion of each shirt’s profits are donated directly to the charity of the corresponding color. Read my review from last summer here!

Harding-Lane:: Needlepoint Hats
Creators of the original needlepoint hat, siblings Sarah & Steve have just the cutest line of New England-themed pieces. Adjustable and made from pre-washed fabric, these have the same feel of your favorite ten-year-old worn-in baseball cap. Now, do I go for the lighthouse or Martha’s Vineyard one?!

Category 5 Boat Shoes:: Men & Women’s Boat Shoes & Accessories

Floral Skirts + Fresh Tennies
Because isn’t that what spring is made of?
Just wanted to pop by + show off two new additions to my closet that are getting tons o’ use so far this spring!
White Tee, Sonoma | Lucky Charms Skirt, Preppy Pink Shop | Bow Ring, Kate Spade | Tassel Tote Bag, Old Navy | Lacoste Marice Sneakers c/o OnlineShoes
I’m a big fan of Keds, but these fresh Lacoste sneaks totally rival them. I mean, it’s way difficult to compete with slip-on shoes… I’ve been sliding them on and off daily this spring! They’re perfect for commuting too– the season of Uggs-before-heels has passed gals; load up on them tennis shoes.
Word to the wise, I found that this particular pair ran a bit big, so I would consider sizing down!
If you’ve been reading [shell chic’d] for a while, you’ve probably come to terms with my addiction to Preppy Pink Shop goods [as seen here | here | and here, among elsewhere]. Justice makes the most darling + not to mention COMFORTABLE skirts around, and many in hard-to-find Lilly Pulitzer fabrics! I’m currently crushing on the Nautical Ships + First Impression prints [seriously, pre-order this now because it will NOT last!].
[ post script: PPS has a bunch of Lilly Derby Hats for sale via Instagram right now– snag those up in time for the Kentucky Derby next weekend! ]
For 20% off your Preppy Pink Shop Etsy orders, be sure to use code SHELLCHIC! Can’t wait to see what you pick out! xx
Dear Kate
I swear y’all. The incredible + innovative underwear designers I’ve been introduced to lately make me want to forgo VS for good. Dear Kate is a new designer making some of the best in performance underwear for ladies.
Don’t lie to me: you definitely have your period panties [sorry, there’s no better phrase for them]. And they are probably pretty granny-like and you probably feel pretty dingy when you wear them. No, just me? Yeah, didn’t think so.
Dear Kate‘s darling line of silky-good underwear have a built-in liner that protects you as well as a pantyliner would. Because honestly, let me tell you: those leggings, yoga pants, or gym shorts you’re sporting on the go? The only thing worse than a visible-panty-line is a visible-panty-liner(!).
Choose from the Vera [my favorite!], the Ella// the Margot // the Hazel [above– best for active!] // the Amelia // or the Rosa styles, and bikini // hipster // thong // cheeky // highrise // or brief cuts. Even pick your lining– full or mini depending on how Auntie Flo is feeling. [Is this too much? Apologies.]
All my dancer ladies:: you, especially, should consider the Margot Collection— named after our girl Margot Fonteyn for high-performing women always on the go!
No more hand washing, no more leaks. And ohmygawd sosoft&comfortable. And best of all? Made in the USA.
You can shop the full collection here, and Dear Kate is generously offering my readers 25% off their first purchase with code shellchic’d from now until May 15! I guarantee you’ll love them. If you don’t, Dear Kate will send you a whole new pair. How’s that for a promise?
Full disclosure: I was provided a pair of Dear Kates for review; all opinions expressed are my own. All images copyright Dear Kate.
