Pantone Color of the Year 2018:: Ultra Violet

New year, new hue.

Ultra Violet is comin’ in hot as Pantone’s Color of the Year 2018. Idk man. When I said purple is my favorite color I meant lavender. Lilac. Periwinkle. Something you’d see the Easter Bunny carrying lighter. Violet is a little too moody, a little too electric for me. I feel as though I’m not worthy of its royalness I mean just look at QE2 owning it how does one compete with that?

That being said, slip an amethyst ring on my finger while I’m sipping a spot of tea in one of those gilded age chairs and I might change my mind.

Lavender Coat Pantone Lilac Gray is a tricky one. Depending on what it’s paired with, I can see it as a dull violet as much as a light gray upon second glance. It seems to be the color of the year taking longest to trickle down to mainstream retail, though this coat from last spring did boast the name, and definitely pops as purple against this gray New England winter…

Lilac Gray + Other Lavenders

pantone lilac gray sweaterI have nothing sophisticated nor specific to say about this outfit besides, do you know how difficult it is to find clothing of the light-purple family any time of year other than April?! It’s a friggin’ periwinkle treasure hunt.

So when you DO come across two pieces of this hue, let’s say, off season (not to mention seriously marked down), you pair them proudly. Fortunately, this may be the last violet struggle for a while, as Serenity and Lilac Gray are two of Pantone’s Spring 2016 Colors. Looks like somebiddie may be on-trend for one of the few times in her life!
