When nearly all of my college girlfriends scattered after graduation, leaving me in Boston to fend for myself, I had some serious anxiety about how I would make friends as an adult 22-year old who could be mistaken for shy (I don’t like making the first move ok!!).
Alas, fate a weird little dance group introduced me to a handful of girls who would become those “adult friends.” While I feel like I grew up with my college girls, this group has relied on each other to navigate adulthood. We got close fast, and have been there for the day-to-day of each other’s breakups turned new relationships turned engagements and marriages and questionable fertility and babies and grad school and new careers and the whole shebang.
WOW getting kind of emotion rn!
Anyway, that ode to adult friendships is really just a longwinded way of introducing you to some of the best places to celebrate Galentine’s Day in Boston—something four of us have done nearly every February since we met seven? eight years ago? Times flies when you’re having fun going through emotional turmoil together!
Roxanne’s | Beacon Hill
French bistro chairs meet flamingo decor meet super girly cocktails (think Mezcal My Maybe and Key Lime Fizz), the old 6B Lounge on the edge of Beacon Hill is the new home to Roxanne’s. Its menu is almost entirely small plates, aka a reason to order every single thing on it.
Yvonne’s | Downtown Crossing
Yvonne’s is one of those bars that makes you feel cooler than you are. Speakeasy style, the street entrance takes you into a tiny hair salon before a hidden pretty obvious by good try door that leads you to a massive lounge where even the bathrooms are sexy.
Lolita | Back Bay & Fort Point
Lolita Mexican has been around long enough at this point that it could be mistaken for tired and washed up but it is farrrrr from so. From the complimentary grapefruit tequila slushie business when you sit down to the cotton candy of my dreams with the check, Lolita—now with two locations—is a super unique restaurant and lounge that has been my gal pal go-to for years.
Citrus & Salt | Back Bay
Ok if you didn’t split guac and margs did you even have girls’ night? Citrus & Salt is coastal Mexican small plates: Hot Cheeto Street Corn, Chile-Lime Chicken Wings, Plantain Tacos…plus such 👏 fun 👏 drinks 👏 This is also a perfect locale for hair of the dog a galentine brunch in Boston.
Tamo | Seaport
S/o to my gal pals Danielle & Natalie for bringing Tamo’s Galentine’s Day offerings to my attention: a dragonfruit-filled Bestie Bowl fishbowl cocktail literally bigger than your face. If that’s not reason enough I don’t know what is.
Alice’s Table
Booooonus:: I’ve had SO much fun at Alice’s Table flower arranging classes over the last few years (evident here, here, here). Like, made me second guess my career fun. My friend Amy has a bunch coming up perfect for Galentine’s Day in Boston and beyond. Choose your own adventure.
