Gray Days, Pale Legs

It’s been a weird week.

I’ve cried a lot of tears. I’ve yelled a lot of things. I still have a lot more to say. For now, I’m not going to do that here. I’m asking you, sweet readers, to grant me this small distraction. I’ve got a comfy fall outfit to share with you.

The election isn’t the only thing that’s been surprising this month. Flip-floppy weather is no stranger to New England, but inching up on 65 degrees in November? Say wha? Bare legs it is, pastiness and all.

Nothing that’s gold can stay though, but I’m just as into pairing this cozy gray sweater dress with tights and boots. $15 and the perfect transition piece = you can’t go wrong.

Five Coats You Need For Winter

We chatted about fall shoes already; now let’s talk fall coats.

{That’s winter coats to the rest of you, but here in New England our fall mornings might as well be January}.

Full disclosure:: I have a seeerious weakness for coats. While the thought of buying new jeans, boots, scarves—pretty much anything that’s practical between October and April—does nothing for me, outerwear does.

So maybe these five coats shouldn’t be classified as MUST haves, but here are the five I filter in those search results, and I’ll tell ya why::

one // The Tweed Jacket
For just just slightly above average temps. I used to rely on my field jacket for those crisp fall days, but this year I finally faced the harsh truth that there are many occasions in which I need to refrain from dressing like I’m still in college. And while my trusty basic b*tch staple won’t be fully retiring any time soon, it’s cut back to part-time, and I’m super happy with the slightly more #upscale fitted tweed jacket I added to my collection last month. Plus it makes me feel like Jackie O so all around a good time.

two // The Classic Wool Coat
Speaking of big girl clothes. When I graduated college, my mom made me ditch the dirty peacoat I’d been hanging onto since high school {I mean WHY would I have wanted to bring anything but old faithful to all of those basement parties?!} and bought me a gorgeous J.Crew camel coat that I still wear today. The classic wool coat is a staple in every New England gal’s wardrobe.

three // The Trench Coat
I’ve praised o holy trench more times than I’d like to admit on this blog. Have you seen Breakfast at Tiffany‘s? Do you need additional explanation?

four // The Puffer Coat
More practical than pretty, IMO, and one I’ve actually resisted buying myself, but a coat that not one New Englander I know has resisted investing in. One of these will definitely take you up the slopes and back.

five // The Cape
The cape is experiencing a rebirth, and she is a beauty. TBH I haven’t added one to my closet yet, but the itch is real.

I truly believe that if you live in a climate like I do, the best thing you can splurge on is a good coat {or two or six}, as you’ll wear it more than anything else in your closet. Lucky timing for you, many of the above I linked to are marked down this weekend! Here’s the lineup::

There are certain shades of limelight that can wreck a girl’s complexion

Happy Halloween beauty queens!

It’s been a bit since we’ve celebrated around here, no? In the spirit of today, and to honor the recent addition of Breakfast at Tiffany’s to Netflix {#weekendplans}, I’m offering you a quick look—take it or leave it—at an easy Holly Golightly costume. Because, Emily Fanning = basic AF since 1989.

You all know eShakti, right? We’ve chatted about this pick-your-own-adventure clothing brand before. I was in need of a fresh LBD and have been on the search for one with a drop-waist or flounce skirt. This poplin shift dress was close, but I’m always hesitant about ordering short-sleeve dresses without trying them on first, on account of my lack-of-Katie-Couric-toned-arms. Easy fix though: for this dress alone, I had seven sleeve types to choose from. To top that, 20 neckline choices. TBH, I was too overwhelmed by that to take full advantage of the customization. As shown, please.

Five Shoes You Need For Fall

Gone are the months in which Jacks vs. Sperrys was the biggest question of the day. Now it’s cardigan or waxed jacket or full-on lined coat? Bare legs or tights or do I actually need pants? Flats or Chucks or fleece-lined rain boots?

We also have a number of other slightly more serious questions and decisions to make regarding the state of our country, but for the sake of needing a five-minute break from politics, let’s keep this light.

But living in New England, my fall wardrobe has to be sliiiightly more varied than that of other seasons, with a high of 72 degrees today—for example—but it being a crisp 41 when I left my apartment this morning.

Weekend Wear

And then I had to painfully accept that sundresssandalrosé season was over, and put on some pants.

So now that this blistery season truly has come a knocking, I’m jazzed about a wardrobe refresh. I’ve been buying creamy white sweaters like its my job, and I didn’t even wince when I pulled out some fall booties for the first time this week {granted, they were peep-toe}. Now, I need another coat like I need a hole in the head, but how fetch is the idea of pastels for fall? GROUNDBREAKING guys let’s give it a go.

bACK to Sweater Season

Sigh.

It’s here isn’t it.

Fall.

With only three days until October, I’m finally starting to accept that my sweet, sweet summertime has passed. An apple & pumpkin-themed potluck with some girlfriends helped soften the blow a tiny bit. A new pair of sneaks has too. And the drop in temperatures means I’ve at least been able to pull out this Ellsworth & Ivey Nantucket sweater I picked up on island this summer.

{I’m pretty sure any long-sleeve garment with “Nantucket” stitched across the front is actually meant for summer sunset sails as opposed to wearing in a artificially-lit office but let’s be honest my name isn’t Sarah Vickers so I have to wait until September.}

Sunny Shoulders

White After Labor Day

No better way to welcome fall than with a little white dress after Labor Day, yeah?

This is pretty indicative of the summer I’ve had. I’ve found myself about six weeks behind on everything {these photos may or may not have been taken in ~~late~~ early July}. I wore white jeans for the first time all summer last weekend, and I know I’m going to be pulling out the boots and sipping on the pumpkin spice about six weeks later than you all too.

BUT I’m excited to make my grand return to this lil space. I’ve got a lot to tell ya about–including a new addition to an already favorite restaurant of mine, a couple off-season travel guides, and a guide to making your summer wardrobe fall AF.

Hues of Blues {Labor Day Sales 2016!}

Lol so August happened.

Maybe another day I’ll share a recap of the insanity that was the summer of 2016. Maybe by November.
