I don’t know where the time has snuck away to, but we are on the heels of our 7-month wedding anniversary. Oh buoy. They say the day goes by so fast but the year! We blinked and were already halfway through our first.
Our wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty last week, a teensy little dream of mine years in the making, so now that the cat’s out of the bag, I thought I can finally share a little bit about May 2nd here. My Big Fat Rustic Nautical Wedding.
We were married exactly 365 days, minus about 5 hours, after he popped the question. It was a day so sunny and clear that we’re squinting in the better portion of our photos, which as far as I’m concerned is a good problem to have. Our ceremony was in a beautiful little church on Cape Cod, and was just as traditional as the one I pictured as a little girl (that’s a good thing). I wore a white lace and tulle dress (the first one I tried on). My father daddy walked me down the aisle. I cried. My mom cried. We ran out hand in hand. It was the most perfect storybook cliche that I had always hoped for.
My five best friends, including my sister she’s not really my sister she might as well be my sister maid of honor, and my sweet mama, held my hand, pretty literally, right up until walking down the aisle. They stacked our centerpieces and arranged our burlap and had tissues at my eyes before I even knew that I was crying.
We didn’t want to do one of those first looks all the cool kids are doing, but our photographer did set us up so we could talk, without seeing each other, before the ceremony. As silly as we look in the photos, this was one of my favorite parts of the day. Second only to seeing him at the altar.
The party was more than anything we could have hoped for. While the view didn’t suck [we held it in a tent overlooking Pleasant Bay in Orleans], my favorite parts of the night are tied between walking in to this song (#texasforever), dancing to this one, and taking a moment to look around while we were cutting the cake. And realizing that so many of the most important people in our worlds were all right there. Under one tent. To celebrate us. US! That’s a memory and feeling I hope I’ll never forget.
If you want to hear more about the decor, the aesthetic, the inspiration, check out the feature on SMP! But this is for sharing my most favorite details and snippets of the day.
[ I really tried to cut these down as much as I could. I just really love my vendors and think my husband’s really cute. ]
