Edgartown Light

Second on our Martha’s Vineyard lighthouse tour was Edgartown’s Harbor Light, first constructed in 1828, though reconstructed later in 1939. This one is in the running for my favorite, as it sits on a patch of sand away from town and accessible only by sandy paths filled with flowers.

Did you just do a double-take at the brand of these boat shoes? Yeah, they’re Crocs, and you better not be rethinking your opinion on them now! I tell ya, this specific pair of shoes totally made me realize that Crocs do not have to be just for little kiddos + soccer moms. Super comfortable and waterproof, these guys were the perfect shoes for our beachy yet active vacation. They also come in an adorable pink/navy combo!

Vineyard Haven

Next to Oak Bluffs lies Vineyard Haven [in the greater town of Tisbury], a sweet little harbor town, and the home of the original Black Dog [it was a restaurant and tavern long before it became a line of souvenir shops!]. We had one of our quieter afternoons of the week exploring this little part of the island, and loved the sight of the tall ships so much that we returned that evening for a ride on The Alabama. More on such to come… 🙂

Also in Vineyard Haven rests West Chop Light, built in 1891, though to my dismay, it now belongs to the Coast Guard, so no tours inside for us!

If you follow me on Instagram, you probably know by now that our trip to Martha’s Vineyard was chock-full of lighthouse visits. Just minutes after we arrived on the island, we unloaded our bikes and got to work— biking up the edge of Oak Bluffs to East Chop. Built in 1878, this lighthouse rests on Telegraph Hill and overlooks the Vineyard Sound.

As much as I love my New England summers, I can’t deny how beautiful a crisp fall day along the water can be as well. This Lighthouse is my happy place, has been since I was a little girl, and is during all seasons.

How excited was I to wake up a few weeks ago to find a J.Crew dress I had been eyeing forever on sale?

Very excited. I plan to wear it inappropriate amounts. Not accepting the fact that summer is over and bare legs are soon to be a thing of the past.

Lighthouses and Heritage

My whole life, my family has spent Augusts in a little harbor town on the south shore of Massachusetts, just down the road from a lighthouse.  This past weekend, the town celebrated its annual Heritage Days, but it was especially exciting this year because that lighthouse that I grew up with, built in 1811, celebrates its 200th birthday this year!  I thought it was the perfect excuse to wear my new Sailboat Skirt, courtesy of an Anthropologie second-cuts sale 🙂 

Heritage Days was also super special this year because, for the first time, we are actual residents of the town! Since I’ve been out of the house for a few years now and my little brother graduated high school in June and is on his way to college himself, my parents finally made the move to their dream town (and my mom’s Barbie Dream House… more features on that later). Heritage Weekend is filled with lots of music, food, and sidewalk sales, but my favorite part is Luminaria. To kick off the weekend, every resident along the harbor lines their property with luminaries on the Friday night.


It’s just as beautiful to me today as it has been for the last twenty some years of coming here, and I’m so glad we finally get to call this home.
