New England gave us the nicest gift this weekend, 86 degrees in October. And even better that this year’s indian summer fell on Columbus Day weekend!
Did anyone else get to experience weirdly warm weather this week?

I’d just like to take a moment first to recognize Steve Jobs. The world lost an amazing person and incredible visionary yesterday. I was more shocked and saddened to hear about his death than any other celebrity we have lost over the past few years. But I’m going to continue with today’s post as normal, because I’m writing it on an Apple computer. Because I edited the picture with iPhoto. Because I’m listening to iTunes through this all. I can do all of that because of Steve Jobs. And I thank him for that. Rest in peace.
Awkward:
-I have somehow convinced myself that my life resembles many Taylor Swift and/or Backstreet Boys songs (yeah still listening to that playlist..).
-My friend and I thought we were so classy wearing blazers to this casual after-work bar last weekend…until we ended up at a club immediately after… aka wrong attire.
-Businesses that are cash only!! It is so awkward to pull out your card and have the cashier give you the “no, we only take cash.” And this really bothers me. And I am totally a new-age brat for admitting that.
-Saw my ex-boyfriend’s father this weekend. He didn’t remember me. Great.
Awesome:
-Had a dream this week that John Krasinski totally wanted me and we were running off to London together. I think I’ve watched Something Borrowed a few too many times.
-I’m dancing again. And it feels so. dang. good.
-My company worked on a holiday routine last night… which meant lots of Christmas music… which I thought would make me throw up. But I actually got super crazy excited 🙂
-Sassy Girl Book Club tonight!!
–These statements.
Awkward:
-I rode the subway home last week after dance wearing cutoff sweatpants, a floral tank top, a nice lace cardigan, and my red wellies. Legit looked homeless and have never received so much attention from the people I walked by. I really wish I had taken a photo for a post. Oh, and I should note it wasn’t even raining so the wellies were unnecessary. The Weather Channel and I are not on good terms.
-It did rain the following day. Was I wearing my wellies? You have two guesses.
-I currently have 5 10 15 28 bug bites, six of which cover the left side of my face and two on my nose. Never leaving my screen-less window open at night again. Reasons why my face is not pictured above.
-I watched four movies in twelve hours last weekend. Nope, nevermind that’s awesome not awkward.
Awesome:
-Pumpkin Spice K-Cups in my office!!
-The fact that it was almost 80 degrees multiple times this week. In Boston? In the last week of September? Unheard of!
-Totally didn’t realize that the Pandora app also gives biographical information on the artist currently playing. Never knew that’s how the Backstreet Boys got together.
-Zara offers some dang quick free shipping in the US now!
-I don’t want to brag, but I have the best mama in the world. She deserves to be bragged about.

Awkward:
-Freaking this poor girl out the other night, as I just happened to be walking in the same direction as her for approximately ten minutes. You could totally tell she thought I was creeping and following her when in actuality there really is only one way to get to my apartment and probably hers as well. Every time she turned her head around I wanted to yell that I wasn’t following her but I thought that had a high possibility of making the situation even worse.
-Getting carded in the one liquor store in the city that is known for not carding. Being the first in the line of about six people to receive said carding. Oh wait, I guess that’s my hairbow you’re talking to. I’m not 12 I promise.
-Lip syncing Ke$ha while waiting for the subway. In my raincoat and soggy Sperrys. Oh I was a sight to all who had to walk by me.
-When I can’t decode the word verifications while commenting so I look like a spammer! Seriously, is it just me or are some of those really hard to decipher??
-Somehow these shoes are too small and too big at the same time. Bizarre-ing me out.
Awesome:
-My first “college” experience with my younger brother. Well, I’m not in college anymore, he is. I can’t wait for the day I run into him at a bar instead of just a party now that we’re in the same city. This could also just as easily be classified as awkward.
-Getting to spend a little time with my dad over the weekend! Football, fried bologna sandwiches, and a ride to work. And ok there was some economy talk too, but we’ll forgive him for that.
-Tiramisu cakepops. Heaven.
First Impression Shift, Lilly Pulitzer
Sandals, Charlotte Russe
Awkward:
-Thinking flip flops would be a much more sensible choice than heels for traveling footwear when actually they gave me such bad blisters before I even got to put my heels on! No thank you OldNavyOneDollarFlipFlops.
-The poor LF employee I walked by yesterday who had to stand outside the store telling every single person who walked by the very busy street “Heyyyy come on in check out our deals only sale of the seeeasonnnn.”
-Walking into Forever 21 as a postgrad felt like being spotted in my old college dining hall. I felt so old and out of place. I didn’t even see anyone I had gone to school with but it was that same terrible feeling of oh-my-god-I’m-going-to-get-caught-on-campus-after-graduation. Hmm, awkward that I do already know what that feels like too? Whatever, I’ll deal as F21 is a necessity.
-Changing your Facebook relationship status. Ugh.
-Being packed on the subway like a sardine, hearing a man behind me breathing so heavily and loudly, turning around to see if he’s ok as it sounds like he is running a marathon, and him just chowing down on an Egg McMuffin. Must have been really energy consuming…?
-Tripping up the stairs in a very public place. Flashing everyone because I was in a dress. Ruining my shoes. Classic story. Had to include it.
-Buying a 4 oz container of goat cheese instead of 8 oz and not realizing it until I sat down to eat the pasta at my last-minute pseudo dinner party and couldn’t figure out why the cheese cream sauce barely covered it.
Awesome:
-Getting free sample packs of olive oil to use for said dinner party.
-My friend Kayla Harrity starring in a new mini-series, The Rookie Bartender. It is the funniest thing and so worth your while to watch. And it’s only 5 minutes long so you kind of sort of have no excuse.
-Finally buying a pair of colored denim! Pink, if you will 🙂
–Little sissy coming to visit this weekend.
-Friends. Oh my god friends. Mine have been everything to me this week. Can’t thank them enough.

I just die reading everyone’s Awkward and Awesome Thursdays, so I figured it was about time to link up myself!
Awkward:
-Rediscovering my LiveJournal, Xanga, MySpace, Webshots, and PhotoBucket from middle and early high school. Shoot was that embarrassing. I was an awkward, awkward kid.
-The other day I saw the cutest thing on the commuter rail: a little girl going to work in the big city with who I assumed was her grandpa. I gushed at them all morning and then they were on my train on the way home too. Only then did I hear her refer to him as “Daddy” over and over. Now I have much older parents as well, but this guy? If he’s her dad, he must have become a father at about 77!
-I’ve been using the same Almay eyeliner for years (the brand and color, not the same stick!), and only yesterday did I discover that there is a sharpener on the other end. So many eyeliners wasted.
-Complaining to all of my roommates and our relator that I was given the wrong set of keys to my new apartment. Only to find out that they do in fact work and I am just incompetent.
-Our server at a restaurant asked if I was excited about starting college. As in going for the first time. No ma’am, I graduated college eight months ago.
-My dad helping my roommates and I paint the new place, shirtless. In front of my roommates. And their families. Woof.
Awesome:
-Commuting from home for these few weeks means I get to be a little kid again… my mom drives me to the train, packs me lunch, AND if I’m lucky a dinner too 🙂 What a woman.
-Hearing that I successfully got the Lilly Pulitzer dress from my Rue La La “Still Want It” list! HUGE thanks to Little Miss Southern Love for the tip that SWI actually works!
–Rendez-vous New England this weekend!
-Retail therapy: nothing more soothing.
Don’t forget to link up at The Daybook!
This is my baby brother…
We moved him into college Friday…
To this beautiful street…
Then we drove a couple miles to the other side of town to move me into my first post-grad apartment!
…Ok, we didn’t actually do any moving– that’s happening next weekend. And therefore I don’t have any good photos to share. But I did do a lot of painting and cleaning and enjoyed a tiring but fun day with my new roommates! Then our parents rewarded us with a deelish dinner out…
So Labor Day Weekend for us was less beach-y and more labor-y but good all the same. It’s a big time of change but what can you do but embrace it? 🙂
Hope you all are enjoying a third day of this weekend, remember to link up to share your Instagrams!
