While miss {av} is on a little overseas voyage, we’re doing a Eurotrip Friday’s Fancies in her honor. I’ve still got Parisian details on my mind, and while this look may a bit too over-the-top touristy for France itself, I think it would work just fine from afar.
Oh La La Jersey Sweatshirt, Zoe Karssen, $160 (also in blue!)
Lacie Shorts, LOST via Tilly’s, $40
5-Zip Clutch, Rebecca Minkoff, $330
Skinny Mini Bow Studs, Kate Spade, $48
Love Notes Bow Ring, Kate Spade, $48
Carousel Bangle, Kate Spade, $250
Les Vernis Nail Colour in Jade Rose, Chanel, $26
Crocheted Perimeter Scarf, Anthropologie, $38
Petunia Heel, Seychelles, $100

Cupcakes and Cashmere is both the first fashion– and first food– blog that I ever followed. I don’t even know how many years I’ve been reading it, but I do know that I read it every day. Even on those busy mornings when I neglect every other blog in my reader, C&C just begs for me to click on it. It is Emily Shuman’s work that inspired me to start my own fashion blog, that influences how + what I write about on my company’s food blog, and that motivates me to become a better writer, photographer, stylist, cook, baker, and entertainer on a daily basis.
I could not be more excited that her infamous blog is now a book, especially because I’ve been waiting for it to arrive since the day I preordered it about six months ago! Divided into four sections based on the four seasons, Emily shares the same sort of tips that her blog does: how to dress for any occasion, how to organize your closet, how to entertain on a moment’s notice, how to give a flawless at-home manicure, how to find your perfect photograph pose.
I can already tell how quickly this book is going to turn into my go-to guide throughout the year. I’m sure you’ll see me incorporating elements of it on here… maybe we’ll even do a little experiment Julie + Julia style… Emily + Emily?? 🙂
Cupcakes & Cashmere is now available from Abrams Books and can be purchased [as soon as possible] wherever books are sold!

Chambray shirt, Old Navy [similar] // Lace shorts, H&M [similar] // Headband, Jack Wills [similar 1; 2] // Necklace, J. Crew // Around the World Watch, Urban Outfitters // Bracelets, Alex & Ani; Presh; vintage // Sandals, Tommy Hilfiger
I usually try to wear my brightest and cheeriest clothes on gray days, to combat the dreary weather, but this particular morning was just asking for something comfortable and calming. Nothing felt better than slipping into a worn chambray shirt and some soft shorts. An arm party and big bow cheered the overall look, and day, up a bit.
Big note! I’ve received a lot of comments about the above watch that I wear often, and I’m happy to say it’s back in stock at Urban Outfitters!
One thing I didn’t even realize until I got into my twenties was that there is a very clear and distinct wedding season, and we are right in the midst of it! I already showed off what I’ll be wearing to one wedding this summer, but here’s another dreamy wedding guest look I have in mind, this one for a more formal affair:
Bow Monde Dress in Silk Taffeta, J. Crew, $250
Petal to the Metal Clutch, Marc by Marc Jacobs, $238
Knotty Bangle, Lilly Pulitzer, $28
Chunky Chain Cuff, BaubleBar, $24
Sawyer Heels, Kate Spade New York, $328
This is my absolute favorite J. Crew dress… in the history of J. Crew dresses. My friend Natasha wore it to our graduation last May, and they keep bringing it back with more and more colors! Heck if it’s still available by the time some poor soul decides to marry me, you can be sure that my bridesmaids will be wearing it 🙂
How many weddings will you be dressing up for this season?
As if Anthropologie dresses don’t tempt me every day, this month’s round up is seriously making my heart flutter. So many pretty details + colors! The first signs of fall are starting to peep through, but they are certainly still summer styles…

Ponderosa Pointed Shift, $148
Arihi Dress, $288
Feline Karma Dress, $148
Eyelet Aurelie Shift, $198
Native Birds Dress, $158

See you, maybe?
A few months ago, I shared with you some opinions on essential shoes for your closet. I’m back with a summer edition– the seven pairs I find that I get most use out of all summer long!
1// TOMS. If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know how much of a TOMS fan I am. I literally count down the days all through winter until it’s warm enough to wear these crazy comfy slip-ons again. (Blue Beckett Classic Slip-On, TOMS, $54)
2// Wedges. The ultimate summer heel in my book– why try to balance on those skinny little pegs when you don’t have to? Summer is the season to rock these. (Hamptons Navajo Mid-Wedge, Jack Rogers, $136)
3// Gladiators. I love this style of sandal because they can be dressed up or down, and always come in such funky styles! I wear a pair I got at the Plaka in Greece years ago, but these Sam Edelmans are pretty darn cute. (Ginger Sandals, Sam Edelman, $90 sale)
4// Keds. Some days, you just need a sneaker. Simple lace-ups go with just about everything– you’ll often see me rocking them with white tees and high waisted skirts, one of my favorite lazy warm day looks. (Champion Canvas Sneakers, Keds, $40)
5// Flip Flops. Did I mention it’s summer? Did I mention I love all things nautical? Adore these whale flip flops from Vineyard Vines. (Whale Flip Flops, Vineyard Vines, $40)
6// Boat shoes. I adore my Hunter wellies, but there is no way I’m putting those guys on in the heat. I’m a Sperry’s girl tried and true when it comes to summer storms. (Top-Siders, Sperry, $75)
7// The Simple Black Sandal. Work to cocktails to dinner to out? There are few pairs of sandals I get more use out of than simple black strappies that transition from day to night so flawlessly– plus they stay comfortable. (Sondra Sandal, MICHAEL Michael Kors, $98)
The 4th of July may have passed, but I don’t think there’s any reason why you can’t embrace fireworks all summer long! How fun are these Lilly Pulitzer glow-in-the-dark Callahan Shorts? Mixed with some glitter shoes? I think I’ve already got next year’s look planned out…
Staring at Stars Cable Tunic, Urban Outfitters, $15 (sale!)
Callahan Short in Sparkle Glow, Lilly Pulitzer, $64
Nail Polish in Silver Bullions / Mesmerize / Lights, Essie, $8
Bow Hair Clip, American Apparel, $10
Classic Glitter Slip-Ons, TOMS, $54
What did you rock on the 4th? Would you wear a fireworks print all summer long?
