Wishing you a month full of crunchy leaves, hot cider + spicy doughnuts, cozy layers, football, and pumpkin-spice everything!
Boutikey or Bust
Big, big news, and not just for my Boston gals today! You all remember Boutikey— the app that connects users to local boutiques, allows them to earn rewards and keep up with new arrivals and sales? [you can read my whole spiel here if not!] Well they are back bigger than ever this fall with their new e-commerce site, ShopBoutikey.com. Now, no matter what city you’re in, you can shop favorites from local Boston boutiques.
To celebrate the launch, Boutikey invited a few bloggers over to play dress up and check out some of their newpieces for fall that you can currently purchase through the site…!
Gotta Have It Knit Sweater, Heart & Sole | Hang Tight Faux Leather Leggings, Pretty Reckless | Tear Drop Semi Precious Gold Necklace, Haven | Bijoux Gold Hoop and Turquoise Earrings, Haven | Tortoise Sunglasses c/o Warby Parker (my own) | Vegan Bag, Haven [similar] | Black Strappy Heels, LC Lauren Conrad (my own)
These faux leather leggings are not something I would ever have the courage to pick up on my own, but I’m so glad the girls pushed me into them! So, so comfortable, and if you’re of the less-edgy sort [yours truly], pair them with a cozy oversized sweater to tone down the vampiness.
Next on my list:: this Winter White Pleated Skirt and the perfect transition jacket. But just WAIT till you see the dress I have my eyes on for the holiday season…
Want 15% off your order? Use code SHELLCHICD15 at checkout! Be sure to let me know what you pick up xx

NFL Style Lounge
I am my father’s daughter through and through, but especially when it comes to football. The first day of the NFL regular season always tends to overlap with NYFW, and I don’t think I have to tell you which I’m more interested in…
SO when I had the chance to get a first-hand look at the new NFL Style Lounge–something that combines the sport and fashion [my kind of white tent], I jumped on it.
The Style Lounge is a pop-up retail boutique created to celebrate the personal style of all—in this case—PATRIOTS(!) fans + fashionistas. This was not your average apparel stand with the same old jerseys and tees your guys wear, but instead seriously cute, wearable pieces that can easily be styled into everyday looks– not just game-day garb.
OBSESSED with this Passblock Sweater! This + skinnies + riding boots = New England fall in a nutshell.
Cozy is the new fitted… tee. Add a navy blazer + red jeans and you’re golden.
Red, white & blue fanicures all around!
I also had the chance to chat with the fabulous Phillip Bloch–celebrity stylist and the NFL’s creative fashion director [also cutest human ever]–who styled a number of the players’ wives for the event, including Biana Wilfork, Patriots Style Lounge spokeswoman.
This is the third year of the NFL Style Lounge but the FIRST time New England got to host one, so I was especially excited to be there. Missed it at Gillette? You can still shop the collection online.
If you’re in one of these cities though, you’re especially in luck…!
where next?!
Carolina Panthers:: October 5
Tampa Bay Buccaneers:: October 26
Miami Dolphins:: November 2
Seattle Seahawks:: November 9
Thanks again to the Style Lounge team for having me, and most importantly:: GO PATS!
Layer Season
Sometimes it takes a day like Sunday to remind us why layers exist. Days when one minute you’re up on the Legal Roofdeck sipping their lethal sangria, soaking up that warm, late-summer Vitamin-D, and the next minute the sun ducks behind the building across the street and the ocean breeze turns savage and you praise the lord for you remembered to throw said extra layers into your bag.
Fall in New England y’all!
Denim Shirtdress, Old Navy [TOTALLY wearing the girls version #lolz… similar adult] | Quilted Puffer Vest, Old Navy | Mini Transport Crossbody Bag, Madewell | Bangle Bracelets, Alex & Ani | Booties c/o White Mountain Shoes
No but really, how do you navigate the days with 30-degree ranges in temperature?
Autumn Wardrobe Essentials
Let’s talk about clothes.
[Something new and different.]
I’ve been reading a lot of Unfancy lately [ie. stalking the archives like it’s nobody’s business], and my girl Alex is woking on building a capsule wardrobe for fall. SERIOUS props to these fine ladies, but we all know I am not [yet] strong enough to ditch all the Lilly and other unnecessary pieces crowding my closet(s) in lieu of a more simplified wardrobe, as much as I would like to.
That being said, I’ve realized over the years that there are a number of fall pieces in my closet that do get 10x as much use as others… the essentials, if you will. So I’ve compiled them here, if for no one else then for the incoming freshman girl at a university in Boston, so like myself once upon a time, who has NO idea how to navigate the absurdity that is New England weather.
(You just wait for winter, girlfriend. I’ll be back with that guide soon enough.)
[ 1 ] Chambray Shirt ($25):: Excellent layering piece. Obviously for under sweaters, but I’ve also taken to layering them over summer dresses I want to make work into fall.
[ 2 ] Striped 3/4-Length Tee ($45):: TBH, I wear mine all year round. Here’s a cute one on sale as well!
[ 3 ] Riding Boots ($198):: I have worn my Lauren Ralph Lauren riding boots to DEATH. I can’t think of one item in my closet that’s gotten more wear, besides maybe a couple bras?
[ 4 ] Skinny Jeans ($80):: Because no one likes trying to tuck bell-bottoms into boots.
[ 5 ] Field Jacket ($138):: I finally invested in one this year, and it may or may not be the sole reason I’m [getting] excited for fall. Perfect weight before it’s really time to bring out those peacoats.
[ 6 ] Trench Coat ($128):: Same-ish weight as a field coat, but necessary for those wet days that are upon us.
[ 7 ] Boyfriend Blazer ($118):: Basically I just want to pair these with crisp button-downs + brogues and pretend I’m heading back to university in Oxford.
[ 8 ] Leather Tote ($188):: Is it just me, or do you carry a lot more stuff with you when the seasons change? An extra scarf… gloves… flask…?
(kidding, mom).
[ 9 ] Puffer Vest ($78):: I know these are becoming about as basic as Pumpkin Spice Lattes and yoga pants but you have to admit how perfect they are for layering. Here’s a great budget option!
[ 10 ] White Tee ($15):: Is there a season I don’t reach for my white tees 3+ times a week?
[ 11 ] Black Booties ($198):: The only “heels” I wear in the winter. A big day–>night shoe in my closet.
[ 12 ] Shirtdress ($90 + 40% off):: These are the best transition pieces– wear them on their own with flats right now, and a month down the line add tights, boots, and a vest or pullover sweater.
[ 13 ] Fisherman Sweater ($36):: I like pullover fisherman sweaters because they’re usually heavy enough to keep you warm in the autumn chill, but thin enough to layer under field jackets, et al.
[ 14 ] LBD ($199):: Because, let’s be honest, you need one for every season. And hi, SCALLOPS.
Tell me, what’s in YOUR fall wardrobe?
What to Wear to a Fall Wedding
We somehow got away with ZERO summer weddings this year, yet have three this fall! I’ve surveyed a number of friends over what colors to wear to an autumn wedding, and the overwhelming response is dark purple or orange, neither of which I particularly love on me. So I’ve been on the hunt for additional options to get through these nuptials…
Bold Bouquet Dress | Pleated Chiffon Dress | Skater Dress with Scallop Back
Renley Lace Fit & Flare | Zarita Dress | Runaway Bow Tie Dress
You Are Invited Dress | Camellia Lace Dress | Fresh Air Dress
Do you have any autumn weddings this year? What’s your go-to style or color?
