Second only to my summer wardrobe—wearable for approximately two months of the year—my holiday closet is my next most impractical indulgence, applicable to an ever shorter timeframe, and not exactly necessary for my aunt-in-law’s 2pm Christmas party.
But shopping for my holiday outfits has become a tradition, right up alongside decorating the tree with Love Actually in the background {on mute, should my husband have his way}. From the Children’s Place for plaid party dresses to stores that shall not be named for college party dresses {had to look A+ for the annual Shots for Tots rager}, it’s become a little me-time in a season of giving.
On a prowl for this year’s helping of plaid and sequins, I headed to Somerville’s Assembly Row stores last week, and it did not disappoint. Really wish I had another holiday ball cookie exchange or two for which I could use some festive duds, because it was dripping in sparkly options. And being home to mostly factory stores, Assembly Row’s prices make it easy to #addtocart.
My sequin tank hails from Ann Taylor Factory Store—one of the newest additions to the Assembly Row stores. I also fell in love with a lace green dress {someone send an actual party invitation my way plz} and a gorgeous red coat that I need like I need a hole in the head. So please, indulge yourself and let me live vicariously through you.
This Banana Republic Factory plaid poncho might as well be a blanket it’s so comfortable. Thinking it was go perfectly with the one-horse-open-sleigh ride Matt has promised will promise me for Christmas, no?
And for accessories? Saks Off Fifth. Say shelloooo to Kate Spade shoes & Coach bags – online doesn’t even compare to what they have in store.

Just because Black Friday has passed doesn’t mean the deals & steals are stopping at the Assembly Row stores anytime soon. Sales will be going on all month, and now being all lit up, it’s the perfect place for a little holiday night out. Make a date out of it, some Southern Kin after your Steve Madden, Papagayo after J.Crew. I’d be lying if I told you we won’t be frequenting it this December!
