My weekend:
SoWa Sunday
It’s Sunday, so if you’re in Boston, why aren’t you at the SoWa Open Market?
I spent last weekend there as a part of rendez-vous new england, but had been before since my friends all used to play soccer at a nearby field and we would sneak away during half times of their games…!
It’s open every Sunday from the beginning of May until the end of October, and it is chock-full of vendors: jewelry, art, furniture, crafts. SO hard to keep your wallet in your pocket. Plus, there’s a vintage market inside. Terribly tempting.
There were three vendors that definitely stood out from the rest though:
Grey’s Fabric and Notions: This fabric/sewing shop, though a big name at SoWa, actually has a permanent location here everyday, not open just with the market. Our group met here, and even though the store isn’t huge, I could have spent hours just walking around and soaking in all of the beautiful details. So very grateful that they hosted us.
Recycled SilverWear by John Atkinson: I found this jewelry vendor inside in the Vintage Market and could not resist making a purchase. I’ve had a spoon ring for years and have seen spoon bracelets once or twice before, but never as pretty and as good quality as these. Going to be hard to resist going back for more!
Lady Luxe: Another vintage shop, and one I wish I could have spent more time in. Lovely clothes, hats, and accessories. I’m in LOVE with the sparkly bow brooch I picked up, and the gold sequin key holder– so perfect for slipping into an evening bag at night rather than my chunky lanyard! Lady Luxe also has a permanent location in Cambridge, click here for info.
Here are some of my favorite photos from the day:
Have you been to SoWa? Any specific vendors I should check out? There are just so many!
like crazy.
For anyone who has ever been in love.
Awkward and Awesome Thursday
First Impression Shift, Lilly Pulitzer
Sandals, Charlotte Russe
Awkward:
-Thinking flip flops would be a much more sensible choice than heels for traveling footwear when actually they gave me such bad blisters before I even got to put my heels on! No thank you OldNavyOneDollarFlipFlops.
-The poor LF employee I walked by yesterday who had to stand outside the store telling every single person who walked by the very busy street “Heyyyy come on in check out our deals only sale of the seeeasonnnn.”
-Walking into Forever 21 as a postgrad felt like being spotted in my old college dining hall. I felt so old and out of place. I didn’t even see anyone I had gone to school with but it was that same terrible feeling of oh-my-god-I’m-going-to-get-caught-on-campus-after-graduation. Hmm, awkward that I do already know what that feels like too? Whatever, I’ll deal as F21 is a necessity.
-Changing your Facebook relationship status. Ugh.
-Being packed on the subway like a sardine, hearing a man behind me breathing so heavily and loudly, turning around to see if he’s ok as it sounds like he is running a marathon, and him just chowing down on an Egg McMuffin. Must have been really energy consuming…?
-Tripping up the stairs in a very public place. Flashing everyone because I was in a dress. Ruining my shoes. Classic story. Had to include it.
-Buying a 4 oz container of goat cheese instead of 8 oz and not realizing it until I sat down to eat the pasta at my last-minute pseudo dinner party and couldn’t figure out why the cheese cream sauce barely covered it.
Awesome:
-Getting free sample packs of olive oil to use for said dinner party.
-My friend Kayla Harrity starring in a new mini-series, The Rookie Bartender. It is the funniest thing and so worth your while to watch. And it’s only 5 minutes long so you kind of sort of have no excuse.
-Finally buying a pair of colored denim! Pink, if you will 🙂
–Little sissy coming to visit this weekend.
-Friends. Oh my god friends. Mine have been everything to me this week. Can’t thank them enough.

I’m holding on to these last few days of warm{ish} weather still and am refusing to wear pants until I absolutely have to! But I do figure it’s at least time to start embracing fall colors, and I love the neutrals and browns in this outfit I wore to SoWa during rendez-vous new england last weekend.
Also, that turtle belt? Blogged about it months ago here, and just recently found it at the bottom of an Urban Outfitters sale bin! #goodday
A little leopard
Zippity shoe da, Zappos Tuesday….
I don’t think it’s any secret that leopard is one of the biggest trends to be sporting this fall, especially when it comes to footwear. Personally, I’m excited for it– no longer is leopard being seen as tacky (or is it still to you? I want to hear your thoughts!). But I am KICKING myself because I have been searching for weeks now for an old pair of leopard flats I had in high school and I’m finally admitting to myself I think I must have thrown them out years ago, never stopping to believe that animal print would actually come back in. Little did I know!
But alas, I’m now without them and instead have my eyes on these beauties now…

Think this is a style to stay or still too trendy? I say a little leopard isn’t so bad.
r-v-n-e recap!
What a fabulous weekend at rendez-vous new england! Hosted by the lovely ladies AV of Long Distance Loving and Jillian of Cornflake Dreams, this was my first blogger meet-up and I don’t think I could have had more fun! It was wonderful meeting so many new friends, especially ones whose blogs I already follow– so great putting a real-life face to the name! And of course finding new blogs is always a huge highlight for me 🙂
All in all, it was perfect. Can’t wait to meet up with all of these ladies again! Here are some of the highlights of the events… thank you Instagram for making capturing so easy!

BEAUTIFUL earrings I won from Stella Jewelry. Pearls and sparkle? I am so there.

Button table at Grey’s Fabric & Notions. Oh my goodness. I want to live in this store. More about them and the SoWa market in a later post…!
FINALLY got myself some Roxy’s Grilled Cheese! I’ve been trying to find myself in the same location as this food truck for months. Completely lived up to my expectations 🙂
Sparkly end to an amazing weekend.
So SO many thanks to AV and Jillian for putting this together, as well as all of the awesome sponsors! Our goodie bags=heaven. Can’t wait to do this again!!
And I’m linking up with Miss a {little} dash of ash again today for another Monday Instagram Link Party 🙂

If you haven’t already heard, Kate Middleton is one of my biggest style inspirations.
I remember seeing photos of her leaving Buckingham Palace the morning after the wedding in this simple but darling outfit, and I knew I could remake it.
So, ok, it took me a few months to get it together, but I finally did:
Blazer, H&M
Dress, H&M
Belt, Urban Outfitters
Wedges, Gap
Jewelry, Tiffany & Co.
How’d I do?
Happy weekend everyone! I’ll be [finally] moving into my new apartment Saturday and spending Sunday at Rendez-Vous New England!!
edit: AH I was featured in this outfit on A Petite Princess‘s Royal Runway. I live by her blog for all things Catherine Middleton 🙂
Awkward and Awesome Thursday
Lace Top, Anthropologie
Jeans, American Eagle
Headband, H&M
Starfish cuff, BaubleBar
Necklace, American Eagle
Shoes, VAN ELi
I just die reading everyone’s Awkward and Awesome Thursdays, so I figured it was about time to link up myself!
Awkward:
-Rediscovering my LiveJournal, Xanga, MySpace, Webshots, and PhotoBucket from middle and early high school. Shoot was that embarrassing. I was an awkward, awkward kid.
-The other day I saw the cutest thing on the commuter rail: a little girl going to work in the big city with who I assumed was her grandpa. I gushed at them all morning and then they were on my train on the way home too. Only then did I hear her refer to him as “Daddy” over and over. Now I have much older parents as well, but this guy? If he’s her dad, he must have become a father at about 77!
-I’ve been using the same Almay eyeliner for years (the brand and color, not the same stick!), and only yesterday did I discover that there is a sharpener on the other end. So many eyeliners wasted.
-Complaining to all of my roommates and our relator that I was given the wrong set of keys to my new apartment. Only to find out that they do in fact work and I am just incompetent.
-Our server at a restaurant asked if I was excited about starting college. As in going for the first time. No ma’am, I graduated college eight months ago.
-My dad helping my roommates and I paint the new place, shirtless. In front of my roommates. And their families. Woof.
Awesome:
-Commuting from home for these few weeks means I get to be a little kid again… my mom drives me to the train, packs me lunch, AND if I’m lucky a dinner too 🙂 What a woman.
-Hearing that I successfully got the Lilly Pulitzer dress from my Rue La La “Still Want It” list! HUGE thanks to Little Miss Southern Love for the tip that SWI actually works!
–Rendez-vous New England this weekend!
-Retail therapy: nothing more soothing.
Don’t forget to link up at The Daybook!
Grandma Skirt
No, but literally. This is my grandma’s old skirt.
Embroidered skirt, vintage
White tank, H&M
Braided belt, vintage
Locket, CatBird
Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters
Sandals, Charlotte Russe
Back in her well-to-do days, my grandmother had a few pieces of clothing custom made for her, this skirt being one of them. I love it because it just goes to show you how the styles all come back around. Can’t you picture this for sale at Anthropologie or ModCloth today? Maybe a bit more tailored, but I’ll work with what I’ve got 🙂 I also love wearing this old charm bracelet of hers:
It’s to commemorate a United Utilities service award from when she worked at Bell Telephone. Aren’t the little telephone charms the sweetest? The date engraved on the back of one is 5/27/68 (!!).
