This holiday season, I am loving the idea of pairing casual, comfy plaids, like this soft boyfriend-fit from Jack Wills, with more formal skirts, as in this dark velvet number by Pins and Needles. Don’t get me wrong, I wear sparkly holiday dresses as much as I can in December, but I do think this would be a fun Christmas-party alternative!
Stapleton Shirt, Jack Wills, $79.50
Velvet Mini Circle Skirt, Pins and Needles via Urban Outfitters, $39
Tassel Zip Clutch, ASOS, $25 (sale!)
Bow Hair Clip, American Apparel, $34 (3-pack)
Tock Flats, Kate Spade, $198
Also, at this point “plaid” is starting to look like one of those words that I just don’t think is spelled right…

One of the perks of being a blogger is that, in the midst of sharing all of these gift guides for helping giving to everyone on your list, you also get to publicly share your own holiday wish list… am I right??

Last week, I attended a very stylish + informative event at Boston’s Ames Hotel sponsored by quite the fashion-savvy startup. CakeStyle is a personal styling service that delivers clothes and accessories personally picked out just for you right to your door. Think BirchBox, but with dresses. And blouses. And shoes. And accessories. And designed just for your lifestyle.
I know so many women who have jobs that require appropriate and put-together looks every day, and then some. They want to look professional, but stylish as well. And yet their workaholic busy schedules don’t allow time to shop! That’s where CakeStyle comes in– they do the shopping for you.
Keeping your profession, activities, size, and shape in mind, the CakeStyle stylists cater their choices to you as an individual client. With your box, you’ll also receive a video showing you how to wear, style, and mix the pieces. Anything you’re not in love with, you can send back. You pay only for the items you keep, and shipping is free both ways.
What brands might you find in your CakeStyle box? I’m glad you asked, because that’s one of my favorite parts 🙂 DVF // Milly // Current/Elliot // Shoshanna // Joie // Paige Denim // and so many more. This team knows how to dress today’s woman, with classic pieces that are still on trend.
My other favorite aspect is that you can receive a box as often as you want. Personally, I enjoy spending time shopping for myself every month, and I’m fortunate that my schedule allows me time to do so. But those upcoming summers with 10+ weddings that are about to grace my future? Those terrify me, and a box of cocktail/formal/sundresses picked out just for me for each different wedding location and attire requirement sounds like a dream come true.
For more information, visit CakeStyle.com. You can get 10% off your first box with code BOSTON10— just sign up by December 15!
Standard disclaimer: I received no compensation for this post. All opinions expressed are my own.
I’m not sure how exactly to describe my personal style.
It’s a bit preppy, a bit hippie, a bit vintage, and often just downright girly. Sometimes it’s boho and sometimes it’s nautical. But there are certain signature items I think you can always attribute to being very “me.” Bows. Polka dots. Tutus. Anchors. Sequins. Pearls. Example A:
(Boys) Cotton Anchor Sweater, J.Crew, $59.50
Karinska Tulle Skirt, Anthropologie, $188
Bow Hair Clip, American Apparel, $10
This Is The Year To Idiom Bangle, Kate Spade, $58
Make a Day of It Carousel Bangle, Kate Spade, $250
Ballet Flats, ASOS LOST, $44
Do you have signature items or elements? I’d love to hear! xx
Sweater, H&M [similar] // Peter Pan Collar c/o Sincerely Sweet Boutique // Denim cutoffs, Forever 21 // Bow earrings, BCBG [similar 1; 2] // Swiss Dot Tights, Kate Spade // Clutch, Garance Dore for Kate Spade [shape; print] // Patent flats, Urban Outfitters [similar 1; 2]
I have just loved the peter pan collar trend that’s been gaining traction over the last year, but have always been too shy to try it– until I received this dainty little one from Sincerely Sweet Boutique. It was just the right amount of statement and fit easily with this oversized knit, and had a vintage feel without being too in-your-face, or little girl-ish. I also love their Timeless Addendum and Austen Society Lace Trim Vintage Collars– such sweet little touches to add to outfits!

After almost two years in the same work area, I’m finally getting around to personalizing my desk space. Fantastically priced Instagram prints from aptly named Prinstagram, sleek acrylic desk accessories from Design Darling, and other miscellaneous cutouts and prints posted to a bulletin board have cheered this place up in no time. My style is traditionally more vintage and rustic than the modern you’ll see here, but it’s a nice change with clean lines that keeps me focussed at work.
