What To Wear to Your Office Christmas Party

I invest in clothing three times a year: Spring, summer, and December. Despite living in Boston and having the pleasure of 6 months of winter a year, my closet disproportionately favors sundresses and sunhats over sweaters and earmuffs. None of this is news to you. 

The exception arises every holiday season, when I spend an embarrassing amount of time and money planning and purchasing outfits for any and all holiday functions for which I might score an invite. I know, I hate myself too. 

If we’re being honest, this whole getting old and boring thing has cleared up our social calendars a little (less Toys for Tots fundraising keggers and open bar New Years Eves), but there are still two I can rely on every year: the office Christmas party and my best friend’s open house.

This year, in an attempt to grow into a responsible adult, I forewent my normal red and green tartan and bow-adorned haul in favor of some simpler buys that could serve as black canvases for a few pieces from Boston jeweler E.B.Horn. They helped me dress up an under $30 green fit and flare dress – helpful since our holiday work party is at 5pm on a Thursday and leaves no room for a full outfit change. 

A delicate gold Chimento necklace, studs and bracelet kept it classic while dressing it up just enough to remind your boss that even though working from home keeps you in pajamas from waist down most days, you still know how to clean up.
