Tuckernuck‘s weekly (daily? who can keep up?) email blast showed up in my Inbox this week, and I just couldn’t bear to filter it with the rest of my promotions emails, because this one featured a little diddy on the fisherman sweater. And I loooove me some fisherman sweaters.
A lil’ history for you:: Hailing from the Aran Islands off the coast of Ireland, the Aran Jumper–or, fisherman sweater–was born. In 1891, in an effort to boost the economy, Aran home knitters were encouraged to begin selling their pieces, and suddenly the quiet art of knitting became one of the area’s more important industries.
The fisherman sweater, soon enough, made its way to this side of the Atlantic, and it’s become a New England icon just as much as an Irish. While I have no right to claim that all of these options fit the bill as totally authentic, here’s a roundup of some of my favorite cable knits currently on the market…
Oh and a few extra weekend sales for you because WHY NOT.
