I was doing a bit of spring fall cleaning the other day, and realized that my wardrobe is way too full of summer clothes for living in an area that really only gets to experience true summer weather two, maybe three, months of the year.
Ok, in all fairness, this was not the first time I realized this, but such has not stopped me from continuing to invest in loads of sundresses with bright, springy prints and colors. So, I’m feeling it necessary to find a way to transition them for fall. A bit of leather, some browns, blacks, and navy, plus jackets + blazers should do just the trick.
[ Tabitha Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $378 ]
[ Faux Leather Jacket, BB Dakota, $100 | CRAAVE Boots, Steve Madden, $100 | Dune Dame Tote Bag, ASOS, $76 ]
[ Kirkland Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $188 ]
[ Mini Nylon East Tote, C.Wonder, $58 | Sylviah Pumps, Nine West, $89 | Tailored Boy Blazer, J.Crew Factory, $148 ]
[ Dawson Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $268 ]
[ Opaque Tights, Ann Taylor, $20 | Lottie Heels, Kate Spade, $328 | Trench Coat, Portrait, $86 ]
Do you invest in a fully separate fall//winter wardrobe, or do you make your dresses last all year?
Love this! I was thinking about doing a similar post because transitioning lillys can be very difficult! Have a happy Friday! -The Preppy Student
I love this! It is always nice to find ways on transitioning Lilly into the fall season 🙂
Ooh love these tips! I definitely needed some, especially since I didn’t wear that Lilly dress I bought ONCE. I’m a jerk.
Bridal shower though, right?!
Loving all 3 of your looks! Happy Friday!
I have the EXACT same problem. I wold say 3/4 of my closet is summer clothing. Great job on these transitions. I’m definitely making mental notes for my closet!
These are great ideas to go from summer to fall! Certain dresses I do wear year round, depending on the fabric. Happy Friday!

I love this! What a great way to get even more use out of bright summery colors. The combinations you picked are just perfect to mute them down just enough for fall!
I live in Ohio = sucky weather most of the time. So I feel your pain, although I LOVE the colder months where I can wear boots and big sweaters (I definitely could not live in the south anywhere). Great ideas!

Perfect post! Don’t retire those Lilly dresses to the back of your closet just yet!

These look like amazing transition pieces! Adding the jackets sure make them fall ready! The only thing I really don’t wear all year is linen as that is strictly summer to me! 🙂

Brilliant! I have the same problem where most of my clothes are summer clothes but at best I get a month or two of summer weather each year.
Oh. My. God. I never thought of this, but you’re right! I have SO many “cute summer dresses” that I can wear 2 months a year. Love your tips!!
