Anchored Down

I’m back to posting today because I know we have to at least attempt to return to a sense of normalcy around here. Monday’s events are still first on my mind, and my thoughts and prayers are still with the victims and all affected.

I’m just about done with pants for the year. And tights. Unless they are of a pastel color, pants are out and it’s dresses and skirts with bare legs from here on out. Until they no longer cause extreme goosebumps (seen below), oxfords and lower leg-covering footwear are in.

JW Spring ’13

jack wills spring 2013

New England is resisting spring harder than ever this year. You know who else understands that? England. That’s why I love turning to British brand Jack Wills‘ catalogue for style inspiration– they seem to get that spring doesn’t necessarily mean bikinis and flip flops. Check out some of my favorite current items– shorts and skirts to look forward to, and cozy jumpers and brogues for right now!

Jack Wills Spring Set

(1) Aldcliffe Crew, $118
(2) Porchfield Dress, $89.50
(3) Fairbank Culotte, $79.50
(4) Newnham Side Bag, $298
(5) Alburgh Breton Tee, $49.50
(6) Maybury Skirt, $79.50
(7) Glenthorne Brogue, $298
(8) Ibsley Tote, $39.50

Are you experiencing warm weather where you are yet, or is your spring still rainy and chilly like mine and England’s?

Carrie B

carried bradshaw inspired outfit

Jean jacket, Old Navy [similar] // Lace top, Kimchi Blue via Urban Outfitters [similar 1; 2] // Skirt, Jack Wills [similar] // Necklace, J.Crew // Crossbody purse, Kate Spade [similar] // Glitter heels, Kate Spade [similar]

I wore this [what I like to refer to as] daytime party look out for a birthday lunch last week. The mix of denim, tulle polka dot skirt, and glitter stilettos definitely reminded me of a late 80s Carrie Bradshaw. I intended for it to be a fun, birthday girl-esque outfit I might not normally wear during the day, but let’s be honest– Carrie would probably rock this on a Tuesday at breakfast.

Of Wolves and Knits

I’m still a teensy bit obsessed with pretty much any and all clothes // accessories sporting animal motifs. And while none of these knits are obviously holiday-themed, they all just seem so appropriate for this time of year. Pair a warm animal-printed jumper with leggings, boots, and hot chocolate, and you’ve got yourself a perfect winter wonderland look.

animal christmas sweaters

(1) Miss Selfridge, $65
(2) Warehouse, $80
(3) ModCloth, $100 [in red]
(4) Modcloth, $75
(5) Topshop, $100
(6) Warehouse, $80
(7) Jack Wills, $148
(8) Jack Wills, $128

And while we’re on the subject of cozy knits, can we talk about the never-ending selection of knitware from online retailer Warehouse? I want to curl up in these jumpers and cardigans and not come out until it has reached at least 60 degrees again. Crushing on these gold buttons, striped sleeves, and fairisle.

Pretty in Plaid

This holiday season, I am loving the idea of pairing casual, comfy plaids, like this soft boyfriend-fit from Jack Wills, with more formal skirts, as in this dark velvet number by Pins and Needles. Don’t get me wrong, I wear sparkly holiday dresses as much as I can in December, but I do think this would be a fun Christmas-party alternative!

Stapleton Shirt, Jack Wills, $79.50
Velvet Mini Circle Skirt, Pins and Needles via Urban Outfitters, $39
Tassel Zip Clutch, ASOS, $25 (sale!)
Bow Hair Clip, American Apparel, $34 (3-pack)
Tock Flats, Kate Spade, $198

Also, at this point “plaid” is starting to look like one of those words that I just don’t think is spelled right…

Sweater Weather

After a mild October up here in New England, it is now officially sweater weather. Here are some knits I’d be perfectly happy cozying up in as the temperature continues to drop…

fun fall sweaters

(1) Frenchie Sweater, J.Crew, $98
(2) Peckson Cable Sweater, Jack Wills, $99
(3) Solid Varsity Cardigan, Delia’s, $36
(4) Swan Sweater, Miss Selfridge, $68
(5) A Row in Montreux Sweater, ModCloth, $75
(6) School Sweater, J.W. Anderson for Topshop, $100

Now a real question I’ve been debating all season: what do you think is the appropriate amount of money to spend on a sweater?

Not that the rain ever really stopped here, but I do like waiting for fall to break out my pillar box red Hunter Wellies. Funny how you can get so sick of something in your closet, like riding boots… a camel coat… mittens, and then find a renewed love for them after a few months off!

Fall Lust List

I have the September issues. I’ve been reading the blogs. I’ve browsed the stores. And this is what I’ve come up with as my official autumn wish list…

fall 2012 fashion

1 // A Kelly-green blazer or jacket. I’ve wanted one ever since Anne Hathaway rocked the color in The Devil Wears Prada.
Couldn’t A-green More Blazer, ModCloth, $55

2 // Peplum. It was so trendy this spring/summer, but I really only picked up one piece in the cut, and am lusting after more!
Peplum Ponte Tank, Anthropologie, $78

3 // A timeless, leather bag. An investment piece I hope will last for many falls to come.
Newnham Side Bag, Jack Wills, $298

4 // Neck scarves. So Jackie O. And how adorable is this fox print?
Foxy Printed Chiffon Scarf, Tory Burch, $165

5 // I love my Lilly Pulitzer umbrella, but the bright pink and green doesn’t blend so well during November rain storms.
Lyndhurst Umbrella, Jack Wills, $39.50

6 // Flat tan boots. They go with [almost] everything in my closet.
Candence Boots, Steve Madden, $99

7 // Tory Burch flats. For everything the boots don’t match.

Road Trip

All summer, I’ve been having this fantasy of waking up on a weekend morning with no plans and taking a spontaneous road trip down to The Cape. Hopping on the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket. Alas, it hasn’t happened yet, but this is the comfy, New England-style ensemble I’d throw on if it did! Love me some Friday’s Fancies.
