Dear Kate

I swear y’all. The incredible + innovative underwear designers I’ve been introduced to lately make me want to forgo VS for good. Dear Kate is a new designer making some of the best in performance underwear for ladies.

Dear Kate Underwear

Don’t lie to me: you definitely have your period panties [sorry, there's no better phrase for them]. And they are probably pretty granny-like and you probably feel pretty dingy when you wear them. No, just me? Yeah, didn’t think so.

Dear Kate Panties Review

Dear Kate‘s darling line of silky-good underwear have a built-in liner that protects you as well as a pantyliner would. Because honestly, let me tell you: those leggings, yoga pants, or gym shorts you’re sporting on the go? The only thing worse than a visible-panty-line is a visible-panty-liner(!).

high performance active underwear for running + the gym

Choose from the Vera [my favorite!], the Ella// the Margot // the Hazel [above-- best for active!] // the Amelia // or the Rosa styles, and bikini // hipster // thong // cheeky // highrise // or brief cuts. Even pick your lining– full or mini depending on how Auntie Flo is feeling. [Is this too much? Apologies.]

Best Underwear for Dancers

All my dancer ladies:: you, especially, should consider the Margot Collection– named after our girl Margot Fonteyn for high-performing women always on the go!

No more hand washing, no more leaks. And ohmygawd sosoft&comfortable. And best of all? Made in the USA.

You can shop the full collection here, and Dear Kate is generously offering my readers 25% off their first purchase with code shellchic’d from now until May 15! I guarantee you’ll love them. If you don’t, Dear Kate will send you a whole new pair. How’s that for a promise?

Take a [harbor]walk in my shoes…

Boston Harborwalk Seaport

hey! spring!

The [almost]-seventy degree temps this past weekend meant one thing: I was hitting the Harborwalk! I usually pop on in the North End and walk all the way to Seaport, so the walk requires two things: nice weather [check!], and comfortable shoes!

Woven Brown Leather Sandals

The team at White Mountain [they're based in New England-- hey local!] sent me these super comfy catamaran sandals, and I couldn’t wait to break them out for one of our first days of sandal weather. I walked hours in them and didn’t get one blister! They also come in Natural and I am definitely not contemplating getting them in a second color or anything…

I’m also on the hunt for comfortable (or even just bearable!) spring wedges, and am loving these Tigerlily Honey Heels and Mamba Navy Wedges. Amiright?

The Blues Jean Bar + BJB Express!

photo 1

I won’t lie, I do like to shop. As in, actually stroll Newbury Street or through a strip mall and go shopping– I’m not one of those people who prefers to just order online [if I do it's because I've been sucked in and made an impulse purchase-- oops!]. BUT that personal preference didn’t make my experience with Express Box by BJB any less enjoyable… because WHO does not love coming home to a package, especially one full of outfits upon outfits personally selected for you?

Blues Jean Bar BostonHere’s the gist: you may already be familiar with The Blues Jean Bar, the ultimate boutique for finding denim in a super comfortable setting, but recently they introduced BJB Express, and jeans are just the beginning. Six hand-picked outfits curated just for you and sent straight to your doorstep. You have 10 days to figure out which pieces you love and which you can live without, and you pay only for what you keep. Shipping to you + back is free; all you are charged is a $1 deposit.

So if you are one of those ladies who hates to try on clothes in public dressing rooms, gets flustered in crowded shops, or just can’t find the time to shop in a manner other than online, this is the service for you. If you love it, keep using it! You can have a box sent to you as often or infrequently as you like; this is the Birchbox of the fashion world but without the monthly subscription obligation.

The most fun part of this all [besides the Christmas-morning like feel of opening the box]? Filling out my style profile and seeing what stylists Scottie and Marnee put together for me!

Henry & Belle Super Skinny Jeans
AS by DF Tweed Blazer
BJB Floral Blazer
AS by DF Alessandra Dress
ASTARS Violet Long Sleeve Top
Rory Beca Gus Long Sleeve Open Back Top
AS by DF Jacket [similar]

Funny enough, I think BF made the smartest comment of all about this shopping service: I may have not picked up some of these pieces off the rack on my own, but once they were already in my house and I was free to try them on at my leisure, I didn’t want to have to send them back!

The Blues Jean Bar is offering my readers 20% off any purchases you make from your first Express Box. Sign up for your box here, and in the referral portion of the application, mention shell chic’d for your 20%-off discount! Remember, you will only be charged for what you decide to keep, and I hope that discount entices you to keep a bit more :)

Full disclosure: I was compensated with a BJB gift card in exchange for this post. All opinions expressed are my own.

Monograms and Memories

Old Smith Bridge Pennsylvania

Though my family no longer lives there, I couldn’t resist a short trip down to my home area of the Brandywine Valley in Pennsylvania when the opportunity arose over the holidays. It really deserves a travel post of its own, but most of our time on this particular journey was spent inside visiting old friends [and eating... namely Wawa, Philly Cheesesteaks, Half Moon Saloon's Crab Nachos, and Hank's Place's famous corned beef hash].

Smithbridge Chadds Ford

I did have to take a few moments, though, to show BF some of my favorite childhood sights, like this darling covered bridge. While the original from 1839 has since burned down, this 2002 version was rebuilt to replicate the original, and it still holds the same rustic, single-lane charm [as nerve-racking as driving over it may be!].

My monogrammed necklace [which has been on my wish list for-EVER] was sent to me by the kind folks at Onecklace– much more affordable than most retailers I’ve seen, yet still beautiful quality. And you just cannot beat free shipping!

Skip n’ Whistle

american apparel jersey scarf

Dress, H&M  [similar 1; 2] // Scarf c/o Skip N’ Whistle // Sneakers, Airwalk w/ my own laces [similar]

Today we’re chatting about the super-soft super-cute Skip N’ Whistle. They sent me this scarf a few weeks ago and I’ve hardly taken it off. The scarves are made of American Apparel knit jersey– have you ever touched that stuff? It’s like a silk sweatshirt, in the best of ways. Everything in the shop, from the tees and tanks to the sweatshirts and messenger bags, are screen printed by hand in New Orleans. And it’s all printed to order– while I chose the anchor, I was also tempted by the octopus, pirate ship, and, obviously, bicycle. Skin N’ Whistle also sells customizable tees, tanks, bags, and tons of other quirky fun items. Next on my list? Definitely a tie between the seahorse tank and octopus sweatshirt…!

Grapefruit Goodness

grapefruit skincare

Believe it or not, I am not a beauty product junkie. I do, from time to time, have my weak moments of spending $12 on nail polish, but other than that, I’m pretty good at only sticking to products I know I love, and especially in drugstores where it’s so easy to rack up a basket full. One of my newest loves? Yes To Grapefruit skincare products. Hello body butter // dark circle correcting cream // towelettes // SPF moisturizer // serum // scrub // and more!

yes to grapefruit

Grapefruit is the newest member of the Yes To family, whose products blend powerful fruit acids with ingredients that help to reduce hyper-pigmentation, correct skin damage, and enhance radiance.

grapefruit body butter

Why grapefruit? I could give you all the science behind it, but all you really need to know is the rich Vitamin C found the the extract is great for enhancing skin radiance and evening skin tone– something I’ve always struggled with. I apply the Dark Spot Correcting Body Cream right after showers, and after only a week my skin is feeling so much softer, and I’m already in the midst of saying goodbye to any lingering dark spots. Plus, I don’t even need to tell you how perfect the citrus smells. Like a tropical getaway in the middle of this dry and bitter winter.

grapefruit towelettes

The best part about all of this? No mail-order. No brand reps. No wandering around department store beauty counters. All Yes To products can be found at stores like Target and Walgreens at drugstore prices that won’t break the bank. You can buy them online here and here, but I just dare you to tell me you’re not within five miles of one of the stores listed here :)
