The Queen of Prep

lilly pulitzer quotes

Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau passed away peacefully yesterday morning at her home in Palm Beach at the age of 81. Her colorful way of living has inspired me every day for years. This beautiful woman turned her depression into a juice stand, which turned into a line of dresses, which turned into a way of life. She leaves a legacy that I know will continue to keep the fashion world cheery and bright for years to come.

Life’s a party, dress like it.

Derby Days

Lilly Pulitzer Carolina Cup Dress

Carolina Cup Dress, Lilly Pulitzer // Derby Hat, Marley Lilly // Bracelets, Glitter Box Jewelry via Etsy; LC Lauren Conrad; Alex & Ani // Ring, Urban Outfitters [similar] // Mid-wedges, Jack Rogers

That’s a lie. The Derby Days aren’t even close. But I scooped up this Carolina Cup Dress (still on sale!) upon the end of the season and could not be more smitten. I suppose it will just have to make a second debut come next year!

You Gotta Regatta: A Double OOTD

Kelly and I have been friends since we were eight years old. We’ve always shared a love of Lilly Pulitzer, so I was far from surprised when she showed up for a visit last week sporting the same You Gotta Regatta print in a skirt that I was wearing in a dress. I’m featuring a double outfit post today since the opportunity was just too good to pass up! Hers a little more tailored and sophisticated, mine a little more free and hippie-esque, I think these looks perfectly describe our personalities, and why we’re best friends.

On EmilyTreena Dress, Lilly Pulitzer // Pearls, J Crew // Crossbody purse, Deux Lux [similar shape; similar color] // Starfish cuff, BaubleBar [similar 1; 2] // Green bangle, vintage [similar] // Charm bracelet, Tiffany & Co // Sandals, Charlotte Russe [similar]

On KellyLynnie Skirt, Lilly Pulitzer // Tank, Lilly Pulitzer [similar] // Jewelry, David Yurman // Watch, Juicy Couture [similar] // Navajo Sandals, Jack Rogers

Do your eyes hurt from all of that bright yet?? Be sure to check out this print in the Georgie, Franko, Delia, Lottie, and Camie Dresses, plus the Callahan Shorts!

Perfectly Preppy

My personal style tends to flip flop a number of ways, but more times than not, I think it can be defined as preppy. So when I saw that Country Club Prep was hosting a Prepped to the Max photo contest, I knew I couldn’t pass up a chance at entering! Would you all be so kind to lend me ten seconds of your time and vote for my entry? :)

Boyfriend blazer, American Eagle // Oxford, Gap // White dress, J Crew // Headband, Jack Wills // Locket, Catbird // Watch, Urban Outfitters // Bag, Longchomp // Brogues, ASOS

Thank you all for your vote!! xo

A very preppy week…

Like I said yesterday, I’ve been all about the prep lately! You can just tell from last week’s wardrobe…

Green cardigan, J Crew
White skirt, Target
White tank, Gap
Turtle belt, Urban Outfitters
Turtle earrings, Lilly Pulitzer
Necklace and bracelet, Tiffany & Co.

Ugh sorry, that was a lot of me. Just trying to squeeze as much bright pink and green as I can before summer finishes up!

Um, and how about that earthquake yesterday? I felt it in Boston… and I’m not talking a mini “what was that?” shake– it took us all of fifteen seconds to realize what was going on before we RAN down five flights of stairs and out the door! Hope all of you are ok!!

The Ultimate Preppy Shoes

I feel like my pink-and-green-and-nautical prep side has been surfacing a lot lately. Since we’ve reached one of our last summer Tuesdays, I thought today’s Shoesday should be dedicated to my favorite warm-weather preppy soles from the best of the preppy brands.

Lilly Pulitzer Wedges
Sperry Top-Siders
Jack Rogers Navajos
Lacoste Flats
Kate Spade Espadrilles
Vineyard Vines Flip Flops

What did I miss? What other shoes can you preps not live without?

In other preppy news, Lilly Pulitzer‘s huge summer sale started today, and items are already flying! I’m not supposed to be shopping, but the super discounted price tag on the Murfee scarves was just too hard to resist!

Speaking of British fashion…

There is nothing I fancy more right now than Jack Wills: Fabulously British | University Outfitters.

This store was started in Wiltshire in 1999 and has almost 40 locations throughout the UK.  Recently, they crossed the Atlantic to grace us Patriots with their presence, and I can not tell you how grateful I am to have them here.

I would describe Jack Wills as a cross between Polo Ralph Lauren/Rugby and Marc by Marc Jacobs.  Super preppy with a little bit of an edge, and they love throwing their label all over the designs, but like Marc, they do so in what is, at least I believe, a tasteful and cute way (feel free to disagree).  Also unlike Marc who boasts his own name, Jack Wills is not one particular designer… the store was in fact named after one of the founder’s grandfather.

Tibberton Hoodie, $69

Sundresses, trousers, blazers, sleepwear, knitwear, homeware and more, this shop has just about everything, including a bunch of fun accessories and gifts.  I couldn’t help but pick up a headband (you know I love my bows):

Evington Floral Head Band, $24

There are currently only three locations on this side of the pond: Boston, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket (appropriate crowds, no?).  But the website offers free shipping and free returns, so I say take your chances and start shopping.  The line is a bit pricey by my standards, but not compared to its Newbury neighbors.  And hey– at least we’re not paying in euros!

Lilyhurst Dress, $169

Isbourne Easy Short, $49

Lilleshall Blazer, $298

Cheers!
