Packing for the Vineyard

… Martha’s Vineyard that is. Where I am headed in just four short days for some [finally] vacation time!

Destination: Martha's Vineayrd

[ 1 ] Classic Tote (Vineyard Vines, $95):: As a souvenir if for nothing else!

[ 2 ] Nautical Bathing Suit (J.Crew top, $40 + bottom, $25):: Beach days on Aquinnah are ahead.

[ 3 ] Murfee Scarf (Lilly Pulitzer, $118):: To use as a shawl during chilly nights.

[ 4 ] Linen Sweater (J.Crew, $54 [sale!]):: The perfect weight for summer.

[ 5 ] Baseball Hat (Marley Lilly, $25):: For saving my pale face from the sun!

[ 6 ] Cookbooks (The Cape Cod Table by Lora Brody, $16):: We want to save money by cooking instead of eating out every meal, and why not cater to where we are?

[ 7 ] Bottle Opener (ModCloth, $13):: Adult beverages.

[ 8 ] Koozie (Vineyard Vines, $5):: Additional adult beverages.

[ 9 ] Sunscreen (Aveeno, $10):: Because I’ve signed the Sun Savvy Pledge and promise to stick to it!

[ 10 ] Backpack (Forever 21, $27):: We’ll be biking around most of the island over the course of the week, and backpacks seem like the only way to go.

[ 11 ] Vacation Footwear (Jack Rogers, $100 + Sperry, $80):: Sandals that can easily transition from day-to-night and boat shoes are about all I need! (Well, in theory that is…)

What am I missing? What are your vacation essentials, especially for this little part of New England?

Summer Wish List

The middle of June is that funny time of year when you’re not sure what season it really is… Memorial Day has passed and temperatures are soaring, but technically it’s spring here for another week and a half! Irregardless, here is my summer wish list… what I’d like to stock up on before the season truly starts…

Summer Wish List

[ 1 ] Tank Dresses (Joie, $198):: Light, airy, and easy to throw on for super hot days, and to dress up at night

[ 2 ] Critter Earrings (C.Wonder, $34):: Summer is the most appropriate time to accessorize with seahorses, lobsters, and whales.

[ 3 ] Summer Scarves (ModCloth, $65):: Say hello to my new favorite outfit–> sundress + denim jacket or vest + lightweight scarf! Can’t stock up on enough!

[4 ] One-Piece Bathing Suit (Anthropologie, $98):: Is it just me, or are the one-pieces cuter than bikinis this year…?

[ 5 ] Nautical Bracelets (KJP x Brooks Brothers, $48):: I wear these all year long, but anchors are especially fitting in New England in the summer months.

[ 6 ] Starfish Sandals (INC for Macys, $56):: Because I missed out on a pair three years ago and have been on the hunt for some ever since!

[ 7 ] Seashell Belt (Lilly Pulitzer, $58):: With the new blog name, I am more drawn to seashells than ever.

[ 8 ] Monogrammed Luggage (J.McLaughlin, $285):: Less than two weeks until I take my first real vacation in two years = time to get packing!

[ 9 ] Nautical Necklaces (C.Wonder, $128):: Just timeless.

What’s top on your summer wish list this year?

Scallops + Sunnies

I love the fact that my office has a very lax dress code, but even there I feel like I’m pushing the limits by wearing shorts to work. That is the only thing keeping me from indulging in my mile-long wish list of them, including scalloped ones like the below, but also fun printed ones like these and these.

Shorts and Sunnies

[ Stripe Button-Down Shirt, J.Crew, $49.50 (sale!) ]
[ Scallop Hem Shorts, ASOS, $31 ]
[ Mini Legacy Bag, Anthropologie, $228 ]
[ Sundaze Oversized Square Sunglasses, Urban Outfitters, $12 ]
[ Carmelita Wedge, Kate Spade, $258 ]

When and where do you get the most use out of shorts?

Post-Memorial Day White

I’ve never really been one to play by the rules when it comes to getting dressed for the seasons, especially not with this no-white-before-Memorial-Day rule [though I will say please don't let me catch you in white shorts during the fall]. But summer is the time when it feels most appropriate to lounge about in white sundresses as much as you can!

Summer White

[ Amalfi Cutwork Beach Dress, French Connection, $102 ]
[ The Jean Vest in Storm Cloud Wash, Madewell, $88 ]
[ Booze Cruise Murfee Scarf, Lilly Pulitzer, $88 ]
[ Nappa Leather Starfish Sandal, C. Wonder, $138 ]

I’m hopping on this denim vest trend, and I love the idea of giving the white even more color with an additional scarf. How do you dress up your white?

I fell a little bit in love with this Joie tank dress the other day. Or, a lot in love. Subtle stripes in shades of sky blue and navy? Swoon. I could wear this all summer long.

[ Meeda Blazer, Ted Baker, $240 ]
[ Anchors Away Pendant Necklace, C. Wonder, $48 ]
[ The Barnstable Bag, Kiel James Patrick, $148 ]

Lobstah Shack

vintage lobster shirt

I’ve been pretty darn into lobsters lately. Maybe it’s my crazy cozy recent purchase of this lobster sweater. Maybe it’s the photo above we found of my grandpa kicking back with a cold one in his lobster tee. Maybe it’s just the thought of summer coming and nights on the Vineyard eating them dipped in melted butter. Whatever it is, I’m into them!

Easy Weekend Wear

I tend to go through a few casual-weekend uniforms a year, depending on the season. In early spring, I’m all about showing some leg + even open toes, while staying warm in the breeze with layers on top. I don’t think it’s possible to own too many comfy high-waisted skirts, and I have been living in my denim jacket this month!

Flamingo Weekend Wear

[ Well Balanced Sweater, Sugarhill Boutique, $75 ]
[ Linen-Cotton Mini, J.Crew Factory, $50 ]
[ Faux Leather Mid-Wedges, Old Navy, $30 ]
[ The Jean Jacket, Madewell, $94.50 (sale!) ]

Horsing Around

Derby Days 2013

[ Valentina Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $198 ]
[ Posey Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $228 ]
[
Kentucky Derby Carolina Dress, Vineyard Vines, $198 ]
Mrs. Murray Hat, Vineyard Vines, $198 ]
[ Monogrammed Derby Straw Hat, Marley Lilly, $36 ]
[ Capewind Sands Headband, Kiel James Patrick, $35 ]
[ Vickers Bow Bracelet, Kiel James Patrick, $198 ]
[ Horse Detail Purse, ASOS, $10 ]

[ Tumbler, Lilly Pulitzer, $198 ]
[ Horseshoe Logo Seer Sucker Hat, Vineyard Vines, $38 ]
[ Horseshoe Stud Earrings, Elizabeth and James, $63 ]
[ Malaya Horseshoe Ring, ASOS, $25 ]

For a New England girl, I happen to love the Southern tradition of the Kentucky Derby. I mean, give me some seersucker, bow sashes, and floppy hats any day and I’ll be happy, so I guess the Derby is really just an excuse… either way, I plan on betting some mint juleps this Saturday! Will you be celebrating? Or at least dressing for the occasion?
