Oscars 2013

I like to think that if I were ever to be awarded an Oscar for goodness-knows-what, or famous enough just to be walking the red carpet, I would stick to my roots. We talked about wearing a Free People gown to awards shows here, and I’d love to dress this simple number up with a nautical statement necklace and some signature gold bangles.

Academy Awards 2013

[ Golden Heart Knot, The Heart Knot, $88 ]
[ Sailor's Knot Hinge Bangle, Kate Spade, $78 ]

New Year’s Finest

Whether or not I have elaborate plans for New Year’s Eve, I always take great pleasure in picking out the perfect sparkly outfit to wear. Most years, I turn to H&M or Forever21, because as much as I adore sequins, I’ve never had the budget to spend too much on a dress I can only wear on a handful of glitter-required occasions. This little number from Lulu’s is a nice compromise– fit for a princess with a much prettier price tag! The classic Kate Spade Charm shoes on the other hand…. well we can all dream right?

New Year's Eve

Ballet It On Me Blush Sequin Dress, Lulu’s, $50
Charm Heels, Kate Spade, $325
Pearl Bow Ring, LC Lauren Conrad, $12 (sale!)
Horseshoe Purse, ASOS, $27

On Jewelry

anthropologie sequined migration mini

Sweater, Target [similar] // Sequined Migration Mini, Anthropologie (now on super sale!) // Watch, c/o GUESS // Bracelets, Skiler Love; Glitterboxjewelry; vintage charm bracelet // Belt, J.Crew // Pearls, J.Crew // Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren [similar]

This may or may not sound superficial, but I find it amazing how significant jewelry can be to an individual. What may look like a standard stack of bracelets to one person can hold so much more meaning to another. Like what I’m wearing here. A GUESS watch, that reminds me how thankful I am for the opportunity to represent + write for them. A bangle from Skiler Love, because I love supporting local, aspiring designers. A charm bracelet dated back to 1965 that belonged to my grandmother, so I can have a little piece of her with me everyday. A handcrafted bracelet from an Etsy designer, as I believe in honoring handmade and small businesses.

Do you have special reasons as to why you pick out certain pieces of jewelry and clothing everyday? I’d love to hear!

Sparkle Season

In my mind, the holiday season is synonymous with sequins, glitter, and sparkle (see my 25 Days of Sparkle Challenge here!). From the early days of December through New Year’s Eve, ’tis the season to rock them. While it seems everyone around me is complaining about how many Christmas parties and soirees they have to attend, I am wishing for more! Because I can advocate for daytime sequins all I want, but sometimes you just need a certain occasion to pull out a look like this…

Serious Sparkle

TFNC Sequin Sarah High Low Dress, House of Fraser, $50
Gold Sequins Leather Watch, DKNY, $135
Gold Metallic Hair Clip, Miss Selfridge, $3
All Wrapped Up Pave Stud Earrings, Kate Spade, $58
Hurricane Heeled Sandals, ASOS, $80

Anyone have any holiday parties to attend this weekend? Will you be donning sequins and glitz? Tweet or Instagram me with hashtag #25DoS!

Sparkle & Knit

sequin zara skirt

Sweater, American Eagle [similar] // Sequin skirt, Zara [similar] // Locket, Catbird [similar] // Belt, vintage // Boots, Lauren Ralph Lauren [similar]

I’m a little bit in love with mixing fancy skirts wine comfy knits lately. They help tone down the flashiness of the outfit, making daytime sequins all the more appropriate!

Do you rock sequins during the day?

Eat Cake For Breakfast

Purple tee, Zara // Lace bandeau, Free People // White shorts, H&M // Sequin bobby, ban.do // Belt, J Crew [similar] // Bangles, Alex and Ani // Wrap bracelet, unkown [similar 1; 2] // Call to Action Gia Pouch, Kate Spade // Loafers, Forever 21 [similar 1, 2]

As far as life mottos go, I say this is a pretty good one. I am fully obsessed with this cosmetic bag-turned-clutch courtesy of Kate Spade New York’s surprise friends and family sale a few weeks ago. It has a nice little way of reminding me to not always play by the rules. Savor life’s sweetest moments. Things like that.

Day Sequins

Starshine Bolero, Anthropologie [similar 1; 2] // Tank, Anthropologie [similar] // Lace shorts, H&M [similar 1; 2] // Spotted Chiffon Bow, ban.do // Camera earrings, via Savas Studios // Locket, CatBird [similar] // Tassel bracelet, bfrend // Leaf bangles, via LIT Boutique  // Glitter Mary Janes, Steve Madden [similar]

You know what? Life is short. Too short to not wear sequins + glitter mary-janes + big bows during the daytime. And that’s what I think about that.

Purple + Gold

It bothers the heck out of me when friends make fun of my alma mater’s lack of athleticism. So we’re kind of an artsy school but HEY. We can still play ball.

Anddd alright we’re not NCAA recognized either but I’m still linking up with {long distance loving}‘s Sweet 16 Friday’s Fancies in honor of March Madness. Go Lions!

Perfect-Fit Ballet Button Tee, J Crew, $33
MOTO High Waisted Kristen Jeans, Topshop, $80
Leather Bow Clip, American Apparel, $16
Gold Glitters slip-ons, TOMS, $54
New Bond Street Cyndy Wallet, Kate Spade, $228
Irie Lion Necklace, Lulu’s, $12
Carousel Bangle, Kate Spade, $250
Tina Tang Lion Head Ring, Max & Chloe, $195

Ok and all that being said, as the daughter of an OSU alum I do need to give a big HELL YES to the Buckeyes on crushing Cinci last night :) I usually only pay attention to Ohio State football, but this year I think that deserves a change.

Happy weekend all!

Sparkle + Shine

Well it has been quite sparkly week here huh? Even more fitting then that today’s Friday’s Fancies on {long distance loving} is themed Sparkle & Shine! My wishlist is overflowing with sequin-encrusted pieces right now, but here’s an outfit featuring just a few of my favorites. I love the idea of this Anthropolgie sequin bolero, mostly because I have inherited a rather sparkly bolero myself from my own mom. Maybe I’ll bust it out in an OOTD if you’re lucky and I’m feeling brave :)

Starshine Bolero, Anthropologie, $138
Pure Iridescent Pleated Skirt, Ruche, $36
Glitterati Ballet Flats, J Crew, $128
Sequin Frame Clutch, Santi, $98
Curling Ribbon Ring, Kate Spade, $78
Graceful Pearl Necklace, J Crew, $98
Pave Stud Earrings, Kate Spade, $48

post script. If you want to see more of my sparkly finds, follow me on Instagram (emilyshell)– I’m in the middle of my 25 Days of Sparkle challenge and it’s all documented there!
