Date Night

Whether hanging with your sig-other or with your lady friends, I fully support + encourage dressing for Valentine’s Day. This year, as opposed to traditional pink or red, I have my heart set on a little white number, with some sweet pink accessories to stay in theme.

Valentine's Day 2014

[ Secret Garden Studs, Kate Spade, $58 ]

New Year’s Best

Since seeing O My Darlings‘s Calypso St. Barth gold sequin pants in this Glitter Guide feature, I’ve been a little obsessed with the idea of finding a pair of glittery britches! The idea of lounging around in daytime sequins is sort of fantastic to me, but New Year’s Eve would be the real occasion to show them off.

New Year's Eve Sequin Pants

[ Marina Tee, Lilly Pulitzer, $118 ]
[ Jagger Sequined Pant, House of Harlow, $70 (sale!) ]
[ Pearlised & Metal Clutch, River Island via ASOS, $55 ]
[ Hexagonal Screw Studs, C.Wonder, $24 ]
take 40% off full-price jewelry at C.Wonder!
[ Satin Monika Heels, Badgley Mischka, $75 (sale!) ]

I’m off for a few days to celebrate the new year but will be back up and running soon enough! Where are you ringing in 2014, and what are you wearing to do so?

Day to Night Party Wear

Lilly Pulitzer’s gift guide obviously has me drooling, so I’ve put together a couple holiday outfits for different occasions using Lilly pieces, as well as some other favorites. I just love the idea of navy or cobalt for a Christmas party as opposed to traditional red or green, and I really think the Define Nice sweater must be mine for the holiday season, don’t you? A new take on ugly sweater parties :)

[ casual holiday lunch ]

[ Christmas Bow Stud Earrings, Kohls, $7 ]
[ Bow Bobby Pin Set, LC Lauren Conrad, $10.50 ]

[ La La Leather Tote, Lilly Pulitzer, $298 ]

[ Gold Pave Bracelet, Capwell + Co, $28 ]
[ Downtown Crossbody, Lilly Pulitzer, $168 ]
[ Flax Gold Heels, Nine West, $56 (sale!) ]

How will you be dressing up for all of your different events this holiday season?

And speaking of the season, more important than any Christmas dress, ugly sweater choice, or personal wish list is the idea of giving back this holiday. My dear friend is a child life specialist at a pediatric hospital in D.C., and is working on an incredibly selfless program for the families of her patients. She has created this Amazon wish list full of very simple items that could make a great deal of difference. Any little bit you can offer helps. If you would like to donate, please email me for the shipping address. Thank you all so much!

Caring for the needs of families requires that one be truly present to “be where your feet are” as a child life specialist once told me. This is especially true in a Pediatric hospital where often times one can be consumed by the sounds of ventilators, IV pumps beeping, and complex medical terminology. Four weeks ago, parents across our hospital found solace in a quiet room tucked away on the unit. There they joined in fellowship with one another, myself, and the Champlain. Over coffee, doughnuts, finger painting and coloring, parents, grandparents, and caretakers began to share a side of their stories not yet told. Their words and empathy, holding immense depth and comfort that can best be shared between individuals who truly understand what it means to have a sick child. The families at my hospital have requested the opportunity to come together once a week over coffee and breakfast to share with one another the ups and downs of caring for their hospitalized child. In order to host coffee hour weekly, I need your HELP! Currently a budget does not exist for this program and without your support I will be limited in what I can provide to families. I have created an amazon wish list with various breakfast items that could be stored easily and provided to families each Friday morning.
With your help, I can bring these families together!

I Like Large Parties

We are doing a 180 from comfy, rugged Maine today, and putting on our best dress to celebrate 150 weeks of AV’s Fridays Fancies!

I’ve been so inspired by 1920s fashion lately, even more than usual… probably due to the fact that I’ve watched The Great Gatsby three times in two months and listen to the soundtrack on the regular. A 20′s-inspired shift, along with black and pearl accessories, seems like just the way to go for a fancy celebration in my book!

Gastby Party
[ Wythe Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $278 ]
[ Rhinestoned Hexagon Earrings, Forever 21, $4 ]
[ Glitter Frame Hardcase Clutch, Oasis, $50 ]
[ Escape the Ordinary Idiom Bangle, Kate Spade, $58 ]
[ 3-Row Pearl and Crystal Bracelet, Target, $15 ]
[ Square Stone Bracelet, J.Crew Factory, $17 (on sale for a limited time!) ]
[ Illumie Kitten Heels, Nine West, $79 ]

I think the only accessory missing from this ensemble is a glass of bubbly, and I think I will enjoy one of those myself tonight. Hope you all have a fun-filled fall weekend ahead! xx

Autumn Work Wear

I think I’ve mentioned before how lucky I feel to work in a casual office, in terms of dress code. You’d think the biggest perk of this would be the allowing of jeans-to-work, but really what I love most is the chance to have fun and mess around with traditional work-wear pieces [like pencil skirts and heels] by adding playful touches, like a graphic sweatshirt, statement jewelry, and trendy prints.

Fall Work Wear

[ Bien Fait Sweatshirt, Madewell, $75 ]
[ Double-Serge Wool Pencil Skirt, J.Crew Factory, $89.50 ]
[ Merona Melanie Pump, Target, $30 ]
[ Ainsworth Eyeglasses, Warby Parker, $95— read my review here! ]
[ Pearl Stud Earrings, LC Lauren Conrad, $7.50 (sale!) ]
[ Tortoise Quad Link Collar, BaubleBar, $28 ]
[ Scallop Thin Bangle, Kate Spade, $33 (sale!) ]
[ Leather Scallop Edge Shopper, ASOS, $127 (also in tan!) ]

What are you sporting to the office this fall? And I’m curious— if you must follow a business formal dress code, how do you insert your own personality?

Autumn Wish List

I give in, fall is here! And with it, comes fall shopping [oh how I miss those back-to-school shopping trips!]. Here’s what’s at the top of my wish list for this autumn season…

Fall 2013 Wish List

[ 1 ] Field Jacket (J.Crew, $148):: I have yet to find a more perfect example of a not-too-heavy, not-too-light jacket for fall. Ideally, I’d love a Barbour, but this J.Crew version would do just fine!
[ 2 ] Quilted Jacket (Jack Wills, $148):: For days a bit chillier and for events a bit dressier. I tried this one from Jack Wills on and it feels like butter. So incredibly soft.
[ 3 ] Belts (Kiel James Patrick, $85):: For adding fun fall pops to plain skirts + trousers.
[ 4 ] (Kiel James Patrick, $112)
[ 5 ] Quintessential Fall Skirts (J. Crew Factory, $59.50):: Plaid, wool, tweed– I’ll take any!
[ 6 ] Penny Loafers (Frye, $160):: Just darling. What more needs to be said?
[ 7 ] Baseball Cap [Harding-Lane, $30):: I'm rarely interested in hats, but I am LOVING the look of casual caps as accessories this fall.
[ 8 ] Kelly Green (ASOS, $37):: Any and all of it.
[ 9 ] Tortoise (Sea Lily, $110):: Any and all of it.
[ 10 ] Ballet Flats (J.Crew, $158):: I have this terrible fear of wearing out my favorite riding boots, and I haven’t found a pair I love as much since I bought them three years ago. So to give them days of rest, ballet flats it is!

What are you wishing on this fall? Remember, 25% off everything at J.Crew this weekend with code SHOPFALL!

Friday Night Lights

Every year with fall’s arrival comes the traditional apple picking, cider doughnuts, Pumpkin Spice Lattes, crunchy leaves, and— of course— football. During the autumn I can’t help but be reminded of Friday nights spent in the student section at my old high school, cheering on the Unionville Indians (how is that name even PC anymore?!). I like to think that should I ever return for a Homecoming game, I’ll be dressed a bit better, but still sporting our blue and gold.

Friday Night Lights

[ Cassie Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $88 ]
[ Monogrammed Hat, Marley Lilly, $25 ]
[ Tortoise Quad Link Collar, BaubleBar, $28 ]
[ Original Packable Tour Rain Boots, Hunter, $140 ]

Do you dress up for football games like those Southern belles, or do you stay comfy with your team’s sweats?

How to Transition Your Lilly for Fall

I was doing a bit of spring fall cleaning the other day, and realized that my wardrobe is way too full of summer clothes for living in an area that really only gets to experience true summer weather two, maybe three, months of the year.

Ok, in all fairness, this was not the first time I realized this, but such has not stopped me from continuing to invest in loads of sundresses with bright, springy prints and colors. So, I’m feeling it necessary to find a way to transition them for fall. A bit of leather, some browns, blacks, and navy, plus jackets + blazers should do just the trick.

[ Mini Nylon East Tote, C.Wonder, $58 | Sylviah Pumps, Nine West, $89 | Tailored Boy Blazer, J.Crew Factory, $148 ]

Fall Accessories 3

[ Dawson Dress, Lilly Pulitzer, $268 ]
[ Opaque Tights, Ann Taylor, $20 | Lottie Heels, Kate Spade, $328 | Trench Coat, Portrait, $86 ]

Do you invest in a fully separate fall//winter wardrobe, or do you make your dresses last all year?

Back to School with J.Crew

… I wish! Been a few years since I’ve gotten to pick out that first-day-of-class outfit, but how I still dream about them every year as fall fashions arrive. In honor of J.Crew having the best ever twenty-five-freakin-percent-off sale, I thought I’d round up some goodies you should be taking advantage of!

Back to School with Burgundy

[ 1 ] Horsing Around Sweatshirt, $65 (also in navy!)
[ 2 ] Quilted Excursion Vest, $120
[ 3 ] Nouveau City Scarf, $55
[ 4 ] Scallop Trim Mini, $88 (on sale!)
[ 5 ] Golden Knot Earrings, $35
[ 6 ] Golden Link Tortoise Bangle, $68
[ 7 ] Janey Patent Flats (sale! + additional colors)
[ 8 ] Quilted Edie Purse, $258 (also in black!)

What a change of color schemes this week! This danbury red is growing on me, I hate to admit.

Also on the topic of J.Crew, how sweet is this video on monogramming? Doesn’t seem so superficial anymore!
