après-ski

I’m not much of a skier, yet all winter I’ve been itching to get away up North and spend a weekend in a cozy ski town. Bundling up by the fire in a snowy lodge? That is one great think New England winters have to offer as severance pay…!

Spiked Cider

Cinnamon schnapps, cinnamon sticks, and warm apple cider? What’s not to love about this fall cocktail courtesy of one of my go-to books, Party Drinks!? I highly suggest this spiced treat this time of year, preferably while wearing similar attire.

Purse ‘n Boots

Linking up with the loveliest {av} again for my second Friday’s Fancies!

This week’s theme: Crazy about Boots

Crazy for Boots!

Halima Riding Boot, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, originally $198
Tangerine Flicker Dress, Anthropologie, $358
Deux Lux Snake Chain Crossbody Bag, Urban Outfitters, $49
Jezebel Bronze Butterfly Necklace, CatBird, $220 (fifty percent of proceeds go to charity)
Poly Canvas Bow Hair Clip, American Apparel, $14

I cannot get this burnt orange color out of my head this fall! I’ve never craved orange, but lately I can’t get enough of it. I actually own those Lauren by Ralph Lauren boots (and I am crazy about them– took me forever to find the perfect pair but I finally did last winter), and I love pairing them with this tangerine shade.

And in the spirit of this beautiful pair of brown and orange, check out this photo my godmother snapped from her back porch of a sunrise this week:

Happy Friday everyone! Have a lovely fall weekend!

Cozy Side of Fall

FINALLY linking up with {av} at long distance loving for a Friday’s Fancies! This week’s theme is the cozy side of fall. Now I haven’t tried this skirt on, but for some reason I just get the feeling that it actually is really comfortable… has anyone tried it IRL and can confirm? If it’s not, oops…

Cozy Side of Fall

Leather Bow Clip, American Apparel, $16
Chain Channel Pullover, Anthropologie, $98
Petal to the Metal Clutch, Marc Jacobs, $278
Sequinned Miniskirt, Zara, $129
Minnetonka Triple Fringe Boot, Urban Outfitters, $90

Either way, I am lusting over it. Any of you seen a version under $130 yet?? Or is a good sequin skirt this season going to be a bank breaker?

And oh man, those MJ Petal to the Metal bags. Still loving them after all this time and still can’t afford them.

I cannot believe today is the first day of fall. I’ve been dreading it for some reason this year (maybe since it’s the first fall I’m not back at school?), but today I’ve decided to embrace it fully. Bring on the pumpkins, cider, costumes, hayrides, and leaves. I’m ready for you now autumn, no turning back.

Tuesday Shoesday

As I was assembling today’s Tuesday shoe post on rainboots I stopped and thought never mind– I’m done with my two-year-long span of browsing for rainboots. I’m just gonna get ‘em.

And I came come with these beauties…

So sorry my loyal readers, no Zappos Tuesday for you today. I’ll return next week with six picks for you all instead of showing off my own :) [sorry about that....]

Emily’s Essentials

Last week, I showed you what Lauren Conrad considers the six shoes every lady’s closet needs. I agree wholeheartedly with her choices, but I think our gal pal left out a few, so here are six more types of shoes I consider to be essentials :)

Dressy Flip Flops: I feel like flip flops have such a bad reputation for being lazy and sloppy. But I am so not a fan of heels in the heat, or flats that get sweaty, so I rely on flip flops in the summer. And there are alternatives to rubber ones. A neutral, but classy pair like these will go with just about everything.

Wellies: Unless you’re one of the lucky ones who lives in one of those climates where you never have to worry about rain (and I guess LC is in Southern California…), rain boots are a must. I can’t think of a pair of shoes I’ve gotten more use out of living in Boston.

Comfy Heels: Yes, every girl needs a striking pair of comfy nine-inchers for nights out on the town, but how often do you want to wear those to work? Or a nice dinner with your family? A low heel, or even some higher ones with good ankle support, are priceless in my book!

Boat Shoes: I love my Sperrys. I can’t remember how I ever lived without them. So preppy, comfortable, and versatile. And hello– waterproof!!

Mary Janes: Another more work- or class-sensible alternative to your average flashy high heels. Plus they are absolutely timeless.

Ugg Boots: I don’t care how ugly or trendy you think these are, I will come right out and say that I. LOVE. UGGS. Have since high school. I don’t wear them with mini skirts or in the summer or while hanging out with Snooki. I wear them when I need something warm and comfy on my feet, and when I need shoes to transport to work in before putting on a less-comfortable alternative.

I’d also normally include TOMS in this list, but unfortunately Zappos doesn’t sell them yet! What other shoes do you need in your closet??

Shoes: According to LC

Got this beauty in the mail last week:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Now I can’t say I’m Lauren Conrad’s biggest fan. But boy, girl can dress. And the book is fun because she breaks down the list of what every closet needs.  According to Lauren, there are six types of essential shoes:

Ballet Flats//Basic Pumps//Peep Toes//Embellished//Gladiators//Boots

There’s a few more I think I’d add if it were my list, but more on that next Tuesday ;)

Buy your own copy of the book here!

Rain, rain, go away… unless you have these!

Another rainy day in New England, and I am so darn sick of my rain boots.  While hunting for new ones, I came across (with a little help from College Prep), Zoubaby!  I love Hunter boots as much as the next person, but instead of plastering their label all over their products, Zoubaby lets you customize your boots with your own!

Monogramming is free with the purchase of any pair (which run for $89), and is available in four fonts and eight thread colors.  They also offer customized sorority boots:

As sick as I am of rain, these make it  a little easier to deal with!

Now if only I could find a cute raincoat!  Any suggestions?
